*️⃣Fuji Television Headquarters
Architect #Tange #KenzoTange
City #Tokyo
Country #Japan #AP
🔤The design of Fuji Television's new broadcasting station, located within the headquarters, emphasizes the company's concept of openness. In addition, the corridors connecting the two towers strengthen the structure, making it highly earthquake resistant.
The building is a mega structure with a unique design of futuristic air. It was designed with innovation in both its architecture and its interior use, housing television studios with leading technology in broadcasting. Because of all this he became a leader in the area giving rise to the construction of other modern buildings nearby.
Raising the observation platform into position was a major task for the crew; besides weighing 1,350 tons, the platform's center of gravity is not at its core. Two or three options were considered, but in the end it was decided that the platform would be constructed on the rooftop garden of the seventh floor, where it was balanced horizontally on and supported by three beams, and then raised by hydraulic jacks.
The observation platform's external surface is salt air damage resistant titanium that features an appealing reflective finish with a crisp color that is pleasant to the eye. Aluminum curtain wall was used for the outside walls of the building

🔤The project draws inspiration from the social skills of ants, symbolized by the ‘Ari’ emblem, representing its commitment to being a gathering place where people thrive, much like the resilient ants that have flourished in nature for millions of years.
Occupied by a vast expanse of 115,000 square meters, Taneya’s La Collina houses the main shop, a candy farm, a café, a bread shop, a souvenir shop, and the headquarters. Designed by Fujimori, the main building features a green roof, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding mountainscape. #context@simoderna

Architect #HerzogdeMeuron #HdM #Herzog #Meuron
City #Moscow
Country #Russia #EU part
🔤Brewery plant, largely abandoned since the 2000s, will be re-enabled by a dynamic programming and a strong architectural approach. Because, to Jacques Herzog, "Our project is in keeping with this tradition of urban planning in Moscow: respect and reuse of industrial buildings while adding structures radically contemporary". #heritage@simoderna
The best way found the Basel to preserve the existing, it is build on top of the roofs of historical, 35 meters in height. The new buildings will be perched on a forest of poles, taking the appearance of a horizontal skyscraper. The residential complex will have a total of 188 columns: 137 vertical and 51 inclined. Each of them will support a load of 3,000 tons, which is 800 tons more than the building’s requirements.
This real estate transaction ambitious blend of housing, offices and shops on about 100 000 m2 and has plans to renovate in parallel, 30 000 m2 of the existing offer in the historic buildings. #refurbishment@simoderna
Thanks to the architectural solution — raising the structure on 35-meter columns — the first residential floor is located at the height of the tenth floor of a conventional building, giving residents unobstructed panoramic views of the city from the very first level.

Architect #Hundertwasser #FriedensreichHundertwasser
City #Vienna
Country #Austria #EU
🔤In 1977, Austria’s Federal Chancellor proposed that Hundertwasser realize his architectural ideas through a housing project. Vienna’s mayor then invited him to design an apartment building based on human-centered architecture in harmony with nature. Hundertwasser designed a residential building with protruding balconies or pergolas and loggias. #retro@simoderna
900 tons of soil were used for the afforestation of 14 large and as many small green spaces and tree tenant tubs. A number of the terraces are publicly accessible, others are designated to the flats, and some are reserved for spontaneous vegetation. #greenery@simoderna
With this house Hundertwasser proved that a more human architecture in harmony with nature is possible within the regular construction time, within the financial budget of a public project, and within the current building laws without any special permits.

Architect #MVRDV
City #Tainan
Country #Taiwan #AP
🔤Tainan’s water network served as the basis for the city’s marine and fishing industry since the 17th century, but the 1980s saw the city depart from this historic urban approach. China-Town Mall was built on top of the old harbour next to the Tainan Canal in 1983.
The China-Town mall has been removed and meticulously recycled, making the project an innovative example of the circular economy. The foundations of the former mall stick out of the park and the lagoon like a contemporary Roman Forum, offering a visual marker of the historical decision to close a port in favour of a mall. #refurbishment
The pool has been carefully planned to be a perfect gathering spot for all seasons: the water level will rise and fall in response to the rainy and dry seasons, and in hot weather mist sprayers will reduce the local temperature to provide welcome relief to visitors, reducing the use of air conditioning in the summer months.

Architect #Ito #ToyoIto
City #Taipei
Country #Taiwan #AP
🔤Columns dominate the library in Taipei, a single-story structure designed in tandem with an eight-story building directly behind it. The taller building holds teaching facilities and forms the fourth side of an enclosed courtyard whose centerpiece is the jewel-like library.
Supporting the vertical load, the reinforced-concrete columns are arranged using a double-spiral algorithm. “Usually columns are organized with an orthogonal grid, but here we wanted a more natural way,” explains Ito.
So the column plan propagates from three centers in the ground plane. Two sets of curved lines extend outward in opposite directions, as if tracing the petals of a lotus flower.
Ito placed columns at their cross points. As the lines spin outward, the distance between intersections grows, and the concentration of columns disperses, creating pockets of open space reminiscent of clearings in a forest.

Architect #Saarinen #EeroSaarinen
Refurbishment by
#BeyerBlinderBelle #BBB
City #NewYork
Country #USA #NA
🔤Constructed between 1959 and 1962, its wing-like roof, supported by “Y”-shaped piers, captures an era of optimism in air travel. Saarinen compared its shape to the “Leonardo da Vinci flying machine.” However the architect never claimed that his design was meant to represent anything physical; it was, he insisted, an abstraction of the idea of flight itself.
This innovative design showcases thin-shell construction, with a reinforced concrete shell roof supported at the corners, and incorporates elements of Neo-futurist architectural style.
Inside, the vast open space, framed by tall windows and the tube-shaped departure-arrival corridors, facilitates the efficient movement of passengers and their belongings.
Although parts of the original structure were demolished, the head house was adapted into the TWA Hotel in 2019. #refurbishment

🔤The canyon's architecture is defined by its monumental scale and striking contrast of colors. Its stepped, multi-level form in #coral tones evokes the imagery of a canyon and layered rock plateaus—some associate it with the Grand Canyon, others with a brick amphitheater.
#Water flows down the towering walls in numerous cascading streams, creating a dynamic landscape in constant motion. A network of walkways and paths surrounds it, allowing visitors to approach the falling water and experience it from multiple viewpoints.
Lush planting integrated into the terraces softens the geometry of the structure, reinforcing the impression of a natural canyon embedded within the urban environment.

🔤The whitish #rawconcrete and white steel roof frame of the main building portray a simple and friendly architectural image.
Instead of a gigantic singular volume, different functions are condensed into small, separate blocks in decentralized layout, thereby producing a series of public spaces in pleasant scales.
By decomposing one single building volume into a number of blocks, more “gaps” are created to provide diverse accesses from all direction and allow people to naturally roam from streets into the buildings, thus breaking the boundary between “inside” and “outside”.
The elimination of boundaries releases more architectural spaces to the city, inviting the stay and use by citizens.

🔤In many buildings, the connection to the city is limited to the ground floor where most commercial facilities are located.
To address this, all levels of the ARAKAWA Bldg. are wrapped by emergency stairs, which are not only essential functional elements, but also work as an “engawa”-like space (veranda), as well as a buffer from the outside.
The space supported within this special façade is a regular shaped space that is easy to use. As a result, it becomes an attractive workspace with an appropriate buffer from the outside.

🔤M Hotel is designed with the concept of a flowing stream on the surface of a rocky mountain. The fair-faced #rawconcrete material evokes the image of a sturdy structure, resembling a majestic mountain mass in nature.
Meanwhile, the flowing stream is represented by winding, curving lines of #greenery, seamlessly intertwined with the building.
The placement of green garden areas on the hotel's surface is intertwined with a variety of spaces for each room. The ocean-facing rooms are constructed with large glass walls to take advantage of the breathtaking views. 🔤The tower, intended as the highest part of the whole M City development, will have a unique geometry befitting its role as a beacon for the entire area.
Its characteristic undulating geometric presence is a series of twisted horizontal #mattglass balconies that form the entire shaft of the tower.
Second towed is envisioned as being an 'identical twin' to the tower of phase 1. Rather than introducing a new material palette and geometry for the phase 2 tower we simply rotated the existing design 90 degrees. By doing this when one views the two buildings from any angle the short end of one tower and the long end of the other will always be visible at the same time.
Similar approach is also exhibited by Absolute towers in the same city.

🔤The Library of 1935 ceased to be used after the Second World War, when Vyborg was ceded to the Soviet Union. Although it survived the war with little damage, it stood abandoned for many years. #retro@simoderna
Restoration finally started in 1991 under the Finnish Committee and was completed in 2013 with major funding from the Russian Government, restoring the building's original architectural value.
The highlight of the original design was the main reading room with its undulating, wave-like ceiling. It combined function and aesthetics, diffusing natural light to reduce glare while providing excellent acoustics.
Another reading room is lit by 57 conical skylights. Their geometry blocks direct sunlight year-round, protecting books from glare while evenly diffusing daylight to create soft, shadow-free lighting throughout the space for visitors.

Architects Nigo (1), Nao Tamura (2), Kazoo Sato (3), Tadao Ando (4) and Toyo Ito (5)
🔤"In contrast to the ever-changing city of Tokyo with its sky-high buildings, I envisioned a toilet that feels like a good old home that stands quietly on a corner of Harajuku. The toilet may feel nostalgic to some and new to others." Nigo said. (1)
Tamura's toilet was informed by Origata – the traditional Japanese method of gift wrapping – to reference the notion of hospitality. "The renovation was conceived in the spirit of hospitality and as a gift to Shibuya's tourists" Tamura told Dezeen. (2)
"The Hi Toilet was developed in response to heightened hygiene concerns after the Covid-19 pandemic. It uses voice commands to operate the door, flush, tap, and music, allowing users to avoid touching surfaces", explained Sato. (3)
"I sought to exceed the boundaries of a public toilet to become a 'place'" said Ando. "For the concept of this structure, I chose to utilize a circle floor plan with a spanning roof and engawa (Japanese porch)." (4)
The Japanese architect broke his facility into three cylindrical blocks that are topped with overhanging dome-shaped roofs to create a form "reminiscent of the mushrooms" that grow in the forest surrounding the nearby shrine. (5)
