Berlin’s new government announced plans to overhaul housing market. A series of proposals has been announced to make housing more affordable and strengthen tenants’ rights: - Nationalize around 160,000 apartments owned by private companies holding more than 10,000 homes, with legislation planned for mid-2028. - Cap annual rent increases at 2% across 400,000 state-owned apartments. - Crack down on illegal rents, overpriced furnished rentals and unauthorized holiday apartments through a new housing enforcement authority. - Expand free legal advice for tenants across Berlin and strengthen enforcement against landlords violating housing laws. - Introduce social housing quotas when large landlords re-let existing apartments and require maintenance reserves. - Build 100,000 new apartments, at least half through public housing companies or cooperatives, while requiring major private developments to allocate 50% to social housing.

The decision is driven by the hope that future advances in science and technology will make it possible to bring them back to life. 13 people from Germany had already been cryopreserved through the Berlin-based company Tomorrow Bio. The 13 preserved patients are stored in Switzerland.

Claude reported female user to police after conversation about weapons and possible attack. A Florida woman used the AI as a personal diary, but messages about wanting to buy a weapon and carry out an attack were interpreted by the system as a potential threat. The information was passed to Anthropic, and the woman was later charged with making a written threat of violence. Her conversations with Claude became one of the pieces of evidence in the case.
