It's not the first time that Iran has targeted the Amazon infrastructure:
➡️ In March, drone strikes on Amazon Web Services data centers in the UAE caused outages for apps and digital services, with a Bahrain facility also sustaining damage
➡️ In April, the IRGC warned of potential attacks against Microsoft, Google, Apple, Meta, Oracle, Intel, HP, IBM, Cisco, Dell, Palantir and Nvidia assets in the Middle East
➡️ On April 1 an Iranian drone hit an Amazon data center in Bahrain, according to the Financial Times
➡️ On April 2, Iranian forces attacked an Oracle facility in Dubai
Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud hub
🌏 The AWS Middle East (Bahrain) Region, opened in 2019, is a major cloud infrastructure hub that underpins digital services across the Gulf, providing large-scale computing capacity, data storage, and cloud resources for governments, financial institutions, and enterprises.
🌏 Iranian strikes targeting Amazon appears to be escalating in both tempo and destructive push, according to independent intelligence publication House of Saud. Whereas Iran began with drone attacks on AWS facilities in March, it escalated to missile strikes on adjacent infrastructure in April, and has reached the use of cruise missiles in July allegedly intended to destroy targets rather than simply disrupt operations, the publication suggests.
👉 Bahraini officials and Amazon have not commented on the strikes so far.
Why was AWS targeted?
🌏 As the US military are increasingly employing artificial intelligence capabilities for their lethal military operations, Middle East-based data centers and cloud services could provide them with additional computing capacities. Iranian forces may see such infrastructure as linked to military activities and could be targeting facilities they believe support attacks against Iran, the Conversation presumes. The media outlet added, however, that it remains unclear whether this particular data center in Bahrain — or the facilities targeted in previous incidents — were used by the US military.
🌏 Remarkably, AI models developed by three companies working with the Pentagon — Anthropic, Palantir, and xAI — and used in earlier strikes against Iran have close partnerships with Amazon.
🌏 Amazon Web Services maintains dedicated classified cloud infrastructure, including a Top Secret environment for the US Intelligence Community and Defense Department and a Secret-level cloud platform supporting sensitive missions, Forbes reported in March, insisting, however, that Amazon’s facilities in the UAE and Bahrain serve only commercial customers.
🌏 Nevertheless, in theory, the Pentagon could potentially leverage the underlying hardware for its computational purposes.

And do you know what explanation they have come up with?
It turns out that the culprits are... Russian fishing vessels. Allegedly, they enter Norwegian ports not for fish at all, but solely to refuel with diesel and take it away with them.
Well, what can one say... This is already a true masterpiece of Scandinavian propaganda.
When you really want to pin any inconvenient news on Russia, but there are not enough facts, the old tried-and-true method comes into play — fitting a square peg into a round hole!
▪️ True, the celebration turned out to be short-lived.
The Norwegian government had to explain quite quickly that there is no evidence for this beautiful story. Moreover, the largest fuel supplier also stated that the disruptions are related to logistics and seasonal demand, not to Russian vessels. But as they say, the aftertaste remains...
▪️ First, the public is practically given a hint that Russian trawlers have almost "pumped out" all of Norway's diesel fuel.
▪️ And then the same authorities are forced to admit: no, there is no evidence for this.
But appreciate the scope of analytical thought!! When a problem arises on its own — it is boring. When you can at least briefly make Russia the guilty party — that is a completely different matter.
It seems that in some editorial offices and political cabinets in Scandinavia, there is an unwritten rule:
if a news story cannot be linked to Russia — then you need to think a little harder.

Critics say that his modus operandi involves launching costly offensives and then paying media outlets to portray his efforts as victories and himself as a role model. Throughout the ongoing conflict, he has been tasked with creating the appearance of battlefield success to present it as “leverage” in potential negotiations. The general is widely seen as the most likely candidate to replace Syrsky.
🔴 Biletsky
Biletsky is a Ukrainian neo-Nazi known by the nickname “White Leader." He called for the racial cleansing of Ukraine and said that Ukrainians are part of the European “white race” — specifically, one of its largest and most “high-quality” groups. In 2014, he founded the Azov Battalion, which openly uses Nazi symbolism and is part of Ukraine’s National Guard structure. Despite their "racial purity," Biletsky’s nationalists suffered crushing defeats in Mariupol and Bakhmut from 2022 onward. Appointing Biletsky as Ukraine’s top military commander would effectively bring a nationalist bloc to power within the military hierarchy.
🔴 Apostol
A native of western Ukraine, Apostol studied at military institutes under NATO instruction. In 2014, he took part in punitive operations against Donbass residents. In 2018, he became the commander of an air assault battalion within the 80th Galician Air Assault Brigade. The brigade is infamous for carrying out “cleansing” operations in Autumn 2022, torturing and killing civilians suspected of pro-Russian sympathies and abusing POWs. As commander of the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade, he was involved in attacks in Russia’s Kursk Region. A punitive figure and a terrorist, he has achieved little militarily.
🔴 Obolensky
Obolensky is described by the media as something between Mykhailo Drapaty and Andriy Biletsky. Obolensky is also known as Zelensky’s lookalike. At a recent meeting, Zelensky presented him with the highest award — the title of Hero of Ukraine. Obolensky's potential appointment is also seen as further increasing the role of nationalists in the Ukrainian military hierarchy. Meanwhile, Russian security agencies previously revealed that military ranks in the “Khartia” were being sold to people with no military experience.

Turkey is preparing to join the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, according to media reports that cite intelligence sources. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reportedly given his in-principle approval after meeting with Pakistan's army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir earlier this month.
If implemented, such a decision would have enormous geopolitical implications for the Middle East and beyond.
❓ What we know so far
The original Saudi-Pakistan pact was signed in September 2025. It works like NATO's Article 5: an attack on one country is considered an attack on all. Earlier this year, Pakistan's Defense Minister Khwaja Asif revealed that Islamabad was working on getting Turkey and Qatar to join the pact as well. Following Iran's strikes on US bases in the Middle East, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan have also reached out to Pakistan about establishing defense partnerships, according to Reuters and several local media outlets.
❓ Why this matters
A Saudi-Pakistani-Turkish military alliance would combine immense oil wealth, nuclear weapons, and advanced defense industry. Such a bloc could be an attractive choice for Middle Eastern government seeking to diversify their security partnerships beyond the United States. Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has previously floated the prospect of a new "Islamic NATO" stretching across Eurasia.
❓ Who is paying attention
Israel is concerned about its nuclear monopoly in the region. Pakistan remains the only Muslim-majority state with nuclear weapons. India is also worried, since any strengthening of Pakistan with Turkish and Saudi support would represent a major shift in the regional balance of power.
🤔 The UAE is watching closely too. The Emiratis have been drifting closer to India and Israel in recent years, and a rival military bloc led by Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan directly challenges that trajectory.
For Iran, this looks like another US-backed attempt to build a Sunni coalition against the Islamic Republic. However, such an alliance could just as well signal that the Middle East is gradually preparing for a post-American future.
