Repost from N/a
C. H. Spurgeon's Evening Reading (June 29th) "Howbeit, in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that He might know all that was in his heart." — 2 Chronicles 32:31 Hezekiah was growing so inwardly great, and priding himself so much upon the favour of God, that self-righteousness crept in, and through his carnal security, the grace of God was for a time, in its more active operations, withdrawn. Here is quite enough to account with the Babylonians; for if the grace of God should leave the best Christian, there is enough of sin in his heart to make him the worst of transgressors. If left to yourselves, you who are warmest for Christ would cool down like Laodicea into sickening lukewarmness: you who are sound in the faith would be white with the leprosy of false doctrine; you who now walk before the Lord in excellency and integrity would reel to and fro, and stagger with a drunkenness of evil passion. Like the moon, we borrow our light; bright as we are when grace shines on us, we are darkness itself when the Sun of Righteousness withdraws Himself. Therefore let us cry to God never to leave us. "Lord, take not thy Holy Spirit from us! Withdraw not from us Thine indwelling grace! Hast Thou not said, 'I the Lord do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day'? Lord, keep us everywhere. Keep us when in the valley, that we murmur not against Thy humbling hand; keep us when on the mountain, that we wax not giddy through being lifted up; keep us in youth, when our passions are strong; keep us in old age, when becoming conceited of our wisdom, we may therefore prove greater fools than the young and giddy; keep us when we come to die, lest, at the very last, we should deny Thee! Keep us living, keep us dying, keep us labouring, keep us suffering, keep us fighting, keep us resting, keep us everywhere, for everywhere we need Thee, O our God!"

So if you are wondering today why God is not answering your prayers, do not let your circumstances define His character. Let Jesus define His character. Look to the cross. Look to the empty tomb. Look to the Savior who gave everything to bring you near. Through the finished work of Jesus Christ, you can be certain of this: your Father hears you, your Father loves you, your Father is faithful, and your Father is still writing your story. Keep bringing your heart to Him. Keep trusting His goodness. Keep resting in His grace. The God who gave you His Son has not stopped caring for you, and He never will.

One of the hardest questions a believer can ask is, “Why isn’t God answering my prayers?” If you have ever whispered those words through tears, you are not alone. Perhaps you have prayed for healing, restoration, a prodigal child, a broken marriage, a financial breakthrough, or simply for the pain to stop. After praying for what feels like months or even years, it can begin to feel as though heaven has gone silent. If that is where you are today, I want to encourage your heart: God’s silence is never evidence of His absence. One of the enemy’s greatest lies is convincing you that because you have not yet seen the answer, God must not care. He whispers that your prayers are not enough, your faith is too small, or that God is disappointed in you. But none of those accusations are rooted in the finished work of Jesus Christ. The cross forever settled the question of God’s love for you. If the Father did not withhold His own Son, He is certainly not withholding His heart from you. The finished work of Jesus gives you confidence when you pray. You do not approach God hoping He will accept your request because you have had a good week. You come boldly because Jesus has already opened the way. Your access to the Father is not based upon your performance. It is based upon Christ’s perfection. That means every prayer you pray is offered from a place of acceptance, not for acceptance. (Hebrews 10) Sometimes the answer is not “no.” Sometimes it is “not yet.” We live between the finished work of the cross and the day when Jesus makes all things new. There are promises that are already ours in Christ, and there are promises we will experience in their fullness when we see Him face to face. Waiting is not evidence that God has forgotten you. Waiting is often where faith learns to rest in God’s character instead of its own understanding. The Greek word often translated “perseverance” is hypomonē. It means steadfast endurance that remains under the weight without giving up. This kind of perseverance is not produced by fear. It grows as you become convinced that your Father is good, even when you do not yet understand what He is doing. Your confidence rests in who He is, not merely in what you can currently see. There are times when God answers immediately. There are times when He answers through a process. There are times when He is working in ways your eyes cannot yet perceive. Remember, Jesus often worked behind the scenes before people ever recognized what He was doing. Just because you cannot see His hand does not mean He has stopped working. Romans 8 reminds us that God is working all things together for good for those who love Him. Notice that Scripture does not say all things are good. It says God is working in all things. Even in seasons of waiting, He is strengthening your faith, revealing more of His heart, and reminding you that your hope is ultimately found in Christ, not merely in a particular outcome. Perhaps the greatest answer God has already given you is one you may overlook. Before He answered your earthly requests, He answered your greatest need. Through Jesus, your sins have been forgiven. You have been reconciled to the Father. You have been adopted into His family. You have been given eternal life. You have been filled with the Holy Spirit. These are not partial gifts. They are eternal realities secured by the finished work of Christ. This does not minimize the things you are praying for. Your Father cares deeply about every burden you carry. Jesus invited you to bring every concern to Him because He cares for you. He is not irritated by your repeated prayers. He is not growing weary of hearing your heart. He delights in you coming to Him again and again. One day you may look back and discover that while you thought God was delaying, He was preparing. While you thought He was silent, He was faithfully working in ways you could not yet see. While you questioned His timing, He was demonstrating His wisdom. His delays are never a denial of His love. The cross has already settled that forever.

“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” Romans 13:12-14 KJV

Remembering the Martyrs   In contrast to most of the other apostolic figures, little confusion exists about the place of Paul’s death. According to church history, Paul was beheaded on June 29th in Rome.   Paul’s work to share the Gospel began even before he encountered Christ on the road to Damascus. His rabid efforts to hunt down Christians in and around Jerusalem scattered believers to the wind, planting the Gospel seeds everywhere they went. Paul’s intensity and zeal made significant contributions to Christendom. He produced almost half the New Testament writings with the letters he sent to the churches, set the standard for missionary living, pioneered evangelistic practices, and planted several dozen churches.   Paul’s final thoughts had little to do with regrets and much to do with the satisfaction that flows from grace-drenched living. He wrote to Timothy:   2 Timothy 4:6-8 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.   The one who once persecuted Jesus Christ became the one who spent the rest of his days promoting Christ.   ~Voice of the Martyrs   🐟https://t.me/Winning_The_Lost
