~PRAYING THE SCRIPTURES
I STILL HAVE MANY THINGS TO SAY TO YOU, BUT YOU CANNOT BEAR THEM NOW. HOWEVER, WHEN HE, THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, HAS COME, HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL TRUTH; FOR HE WILL NOT SPEAK ON HIS OWN AUTHORITY, BUT WHATEVER HE HEARS HE WILL SPEAK; AND HE WILL TELL YOU THINGS TO COME. HE WILL GLORIFY ME, FOR HE WILL TAKE OF WHAT IS MINE AND DECLARE IT TO YOU. ALL THINGS THAT THE FATHER HAS ARE MINE. THEREFORE I SAID THAT HE WILL TAKE OF MINE AND DECLARE IT TO YOU. ~ JOHN 16:12-15
One of the most deeply significant passages about how passionate God is about communing with us is spoken by Jesus concerning the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Jesus told His disciples that the very Spirit of God will speak to us, tell us, bring the things of God to us, teach us and declare to us everything we need to know about the ways of God.
God’s primary means for giving us guidance is through the Bible. The Bible is the rule book that builds our faith and the design for living our lives. If we know and understand the Scriptures, we will be well on our way to hearing what God might want to communicate with us. He will never guide His people contrary to the clear principles of His written Word.
Increased communion with God comes from a knowledge of God Himself. We discover what pleases and displeases Him. There is no substitute for walking with God, spending time with Him, and talking to Him daily. As you do this, He will commune with you. You will come to know what His desire is.
THE HUMBLE HE GUIDES IN JUSTICE, AND THE HUMBLE HE TEACHES HIS WAY. ~ PSALM 25:9
I WILL INSTRUCT YOU AND TEACH YOU IN THE WAY YOU SHOULD GO;
I WILL GUIDE YOU WITH MY EYE.
~ PSALM 32:8
This level of relationship with God does not happen overnight. It develops over a period of time; it is not instantaneous. Through practice, your senses become sharpened so that you know good from evil.
You must have knowledge of the Scriptures, a personal knowledge of God, as well as the knowledge that you are living each day in tune with Him, expecting God to commune with you daily.
J. I. Packer in his book Knowing God says, “God has spoken to man, and the Bible is His Word, given to us to make us wise unto salvation.” Communing with God through His written word is a great way to grow in our relationship with Him. The apostle Paul wrote that all Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching and training us—which is communing with us.
God walked and talked with Adam and Eve in the Garden—until the fall. Jesus, the last Adam, gave His life so that man could be reconciled with the Father. It is through this reconciliation that communion with God was restored. God so longed to commune with us that He sent His Son to restore it. He really wants to help us achieve the purpose for which we were created.
TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND LEAN NOT ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING; IN ALL YOUR WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, AND HE SHALL DIRECT YOUR PATHS.
