While this will be led by left wing pseudo-nationalists and opposed by the British right, I maintain that it would be a good thing for all the composite nations of the UK. The United Kingdom as an entity structurally stifles ethnonationalism, has successfully recast Britishness as a civic umbrella term, and the electoral arithmetic allows Scotland and Wales to undermine a right wing English majority. Celtic nationalism is also incentivised to stay left-wing as long as it casts itself as representing peripheries against a conservative English majority. Breaking up the Union allows parties like the Scottish National Party to face a populist nationalist challenge, and would make it easier for rightist party to secure a majority in England.
