♦️Kaladan project ✅ The Kaladan project connects SITTWE PORT in Myanmar to the India-Myanmar border. ✅ The project was jointly initiated by India and Myanmar to create a multi-modal platform for cargo shipments from the eastern ports to Myanmar and to the North-eastern parts of the country through Myanmar. ✅ Significance: It is expected to open up sea routes and promote economic development in the North-eastern states, and also add value to the economic, commercial and strategic ties between India and Myanmar. ✅ This project will reduce distance from Kolkata to Sittwe by approximately 1328 km and will reduce the need to transport good through the narrow Siliguri corridor, also known as Chicken’s Neck. ✅ Sittwe is the capital of Rakhine State (which has been in the news for the plight of Rohingya Muslims) in south-western Myanmar. Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam ⚜The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam formerly known as the Millennium Dam and sometimes referred to as Hidase Dam is a gravity dam on the Blue Nile River in Ethiopia under construction since 2011. ⚜The dam is in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia, about 15 km (9 mi) east of the border with Sudan. ⚜With a planned installed capacity of 6.45 gigawatts, the dam will be the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa when completed. #Wildlife_Sanctuary_series Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary: Assam ⚜Why in News: Recently, the World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF) found a few tigers inhabiting the Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam. ⚜It is one of the smallest WS Assam. ▪️Location: Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) is located in northern Assam’s Baksa and Udalguri districts bordering Bhutan. ⚜The Sanctuary is bordered by the Barnadi river and Nalapara river to the west and east respectively. ▪️Legal Status: It was affirmed as the WS in 1980 by the Government of Assam. ⚜Barnadi was established specifically to protect the Pygmy Hog (Sus salvanius) and Hispid Hare (Caprolagus hispidus). ▪️Biodiversity: This is important for threatened species such as the Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus), Tiger (Panthera tigris) and Gaur Bos frontalis. #National_Park_series Silent Valley National Park ▪️Location: Palakkad district in Nilgiri Mountains of Kerala. ▪️Silent Valley was declared as National Park in 1984 and formally inaugurated in the year 1985. ▪️It is at the heart of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and consists of areas of South Western Ghats rain forests and tropical wet evergreen jungle. River Kunthi passes through it. ▪️Flora: Humid wet Evergreen Rain Forests.
