♦️Kaladan project
✅ The Kaladan project connects SITTWE PORT in Myanmar to the India-Myanmar border.
✅ The project was jointly initiated by India and Myanmar to create a multi-modal platform for cargo shipments from the eastern ports to Myanmar and to the North-eastern parts of the country through Myanmar.
✅ Significance: It is expected to open up sea routes and promote economic development in the North-eastern states, and also add value to the economic, commercial and strategic ties between India and Myanmar.
✅ This project will reduce distance from Kolkata to Sittwe by approximately 1328 km and will reduce the need to transport good through the narrow Siliguri corridor, also known as Chicken’s Neck.
✅ Sittwe is the capital of Rakhine State (which has been in the news for the plight of Rohingya Muslims) in south-western Myanmar. It is located at the mouth of the KALADAN RIVER, which flows into Mizoram in north-eastern India.

Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam
⚜The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam formerly known as the Millennium Dam and sometimes referred to as Hidase Dam is a gravity dam on the Blue Nile River in Ethiopia under construction since 2011.
⚜The dam is in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia, about 15 km (9 mi) east of the border with Sudan.
⚜With a planned installed capacity of 6.45 gigawatts, the dam will be the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa when completed.

Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary: Assam
⚜Why in News: Recently, the World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF) found a few tigers inhabiting the Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam.
⚜It is one of the smallest WS Assam.
▪️Location:
Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) is located in northern Assam’s Baksa and Udalguri districts bordering Bhutan.
⚜The Sanctuary is bordered by the Barnadi river and Nalapara river to the west and east respectively.
▪️Legal Status:
It was affirmed as the WS in 1980 by the Government of Assam.
⚜Barnadi was established specifically to protect the Pygmy Hog (Sus salvanius) and Hispid Hare (Caprolagus hispidus).
▪️Biodiversity:
This is important for threatened species such as the Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus), Tiger (Panthera tigris) and Gaur Bos frontalis.

Silent Valley National Park
▪️Location: Palakkad district in Nilgiri Mountains of Kerala.
▪️Silent Valley was declared as National Park in 1984 and formally inaugurated in the year 1985.
▪️It is at the heart of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and consists of areas of South Western Ghats rain forests and tropical wet evergreen jungle. River Kunthi passes through it.
▪️Flora: Humid wet Evergreen Rain Forests. The major plants of the park are Teak, Amla, Semal, Rosewood along with bamboo.
▪️Fauna: Silent Valley Park is known for many highly endangered species such as lion-tailed macaque, tiger, gaur, leopard, wild boar, panther, Indian Civet and Sambhar.
▪️Among the 488 species of odonates found in India, the Western Ghats are home to 193.

▪️ Dudhwa National Park
It is located on the Indo-Nepal border in the Lakhimpur Kheri District utter Pradesh
It is a national park in the Terai belt of marshy grasslands of northern Uttar Pradesh
The main flora comprises sal, asna, shisham, jamun, gular, sehore and bahera.
Major attractions of Dudhwa National Park are the tigers and swamp deer.
In 1987, the park was declared a tiger reserve and brought under the purview of the ‘Project Tiger’.
Dudhwa National Park is a stronghold of the barasingha. Around half of the world's barasinghas are present in Dudhwa National Park.

Kodaikanal Lake
▪️ Kodaikanal Lake, also known as Kodai Lake is a manmade lake located in the Kodaikanal city in Dindigul district in Tamil Nadu, India.
▪️ The lake is star-shaped, centrally located in the town of Kodaikanal and is surrounded by lush green hills of the northwestern Palani Hills range
▪️ Kurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana), a unique flowering plant is reported from the catchment area of the Lake.
▪️ Kodaikanal Lake have been identified as polluted and degraded requiring conservation under lake conservation plan 2001.
▪️ Kodaikanal Lake always remains in news Due to discharge of industrial effluents and Tourism pollution.
