#National_Park_series #Dudhwa_National_Park ▪️ Dudhwa National Park It is located on the Indo-Nepal border in the Lakhimpur Kheri District utter Pradesh It is a national park in the Terai belt of marshy grasslands of northern Uttar Pradesh The main flora comprises sal, asna, shisham, jamun, gular, sehore and bahera.  Major attractions of Dudhwa National Park are the tigers and swamp deer. In 1987, the park was declared a tiger reserve and brought under the purview of the ‘Project Tiger’. Dudhwa National Park is a stronghold of the barasingha. #Rivers_Series 🟣 Kaveri/ Cauvery river In Headlines : According to Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, the strict enforcement of lockdown has reduced the pollution in Cauvery River. The river flows primarily through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It rises in the Brahmagiri range near Cherangala village of Kodagu (Coorg) district of Karnataka and drains into the Bay of Bengal. It is bounded by Western Ghats, Eastern Ghats and by the ridges separating it from Krishna basin and Pennar basin. Cauvery basin extends over states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and UT of Puducherry. Tributaries: • Left Bank: the Harangi, the Hemavati, the Shimsha and the Arkavati. • Right Bank: Lakshmantirtha, the Kabbani, the Suvarnavati, the Bhavani, the Noyil and the Amaravati. On the Cauvery, lies the “Grand Anicut dam” said to have been constructed by Chola King in 1st century A.D. 🏵SOUTH ATLANTIC DRIFT (cold) #Oceancurrents 🔰 The eastward continuation of the Brazil current is called South Atlantic Drift. This current is originated because of the deflection of the Brazil warm current eastward at 40° S latitude due to the deflective force of the rotation of the earth. 🔰 The South Atlantic Drift, thus, flows eastward under the influence of the westerlies. 🏵 BENGUELA CURRENT (COLD) #Oceancurrents 🔰The Benguela current, a cold current, flows from south to north along the western coast of South Africa. 🔰 APOGEAN AND PERIGEAN TIDES #Oceanography #Oceantides 🏵The nearest position of the moon with the earth is called perigee when the distance between them is 3,56,000 km. The tidal force of the moon is most powerful during this position and hence high tides are caused. Such tides, called as perigean tides, are 15 to 20 per cent higher than the normal tides. 🏵 On the other hand, the tidal force of the moon is minimum during the position of apogee when the moon is at the farthest distance (4,07,000 km) from the earth and hence low tides are caused. Such low tides, called as apogean tides, are 20 per cent lower than the normal tides. 🏵 When the spring tide and perigean high tide occur at the same time, the resultant tide becomes abnormal. 🔰 GULF STREAM (WARM) #Oceancurrents 🔺The Gulf Stream is a system of several currents moving in north-easterly direction. This current system originates in the Gulf of Mexico around 20° N latitude and moves in north easterly direction along the eastern coast of North America and reaches the western coasts of Europe near 70° N latitude. 🔺 This system, named Gulf Stream because of its origin in the Mexican Gulf, consists of (i) Florida current from the strait of Florida to Cape Hatteras, (ii) Gulf Stream from Cape Hatteras to the Grand Bank, and (iii) North Atlantic Drift (current) from Grand Bank to the Western European coast. ▪︎ follow @UPSC_MAP
