🇬🇧 UK GDP grew 0.1% m/m in August, beating expectations for a 0.1% decline. Annual growth accelerated to 2.1%, versus expectations of 1.7% and the previous reading of 1.6%.
🏦 Fed rhetoric is becoming more hawkish amid rising inflation. Goolsbee called the latest inflation data “discouraging” and warned that several more months of high inflation would be unacceptable. Daly said further rate hikes are likely to be needed. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink also expects US interest rates to remain elevated for an extended period.
📈 Markets are pricing in further Fed rate hikes. According to Bloomberg, traders are fully pricing in two rate increases by the end of January 2027. BofA now expects three rate hikes by June 2027.
🍫 Silver is facing a sharp selloff, while gold is declining less significantly. XAUUSD is trading around $4,135, while XAGUSD has fallen to $56.04. Higher inflation is reinforcing expectations for tighter Fed policy and supporting the US Dollar, putting pressure on precious metals.
📊 US Treasury yields are rising again following unexpectedly high September core inflation. The 2 year Treasury yield increased by 10 bps to 4.89%, adding pressure to financial markets as expectations for Fed policy are reassessed.
