The United States has again refused to issue entry visas to Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas and members of his delegation ahead of next week’s United Nations General Assembly in New York. The US State Department on Wednesday night confirmed that it would deny visas to the PA chairman Abbas and his delegation. In a statement explaining the decision, the State Department said the PA violated US legislation that bars it from targeting Israel in international organizations, advancing unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state, paying stipends to terrorists and glorifying violence. “As a consequence of their failure to reform, contrary to their commitments to the United States, and their ongoing activities that undermine the prospects for peace, the United States will extend sanctions that deny visas to PLO members and PA officials," the State Department said. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara, today attended the cornerstone-laying ceremony for a memorial dedicated to fallen members of the Arabic-speaking Christian community, in the Lavi Forest near the Golani Junction. Excerpts from Prime Minister Netanyahu's remarks: "We are facing a global attack against the State of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces. In this attack, the State of Israel and Israeli soldiers are portrayed not only as perpetrators of war crimes, which is the most absurd thing imaginable to say about the most moral army in the world, but they are also portrayed as persecuting minorities. At the heart of this vast region, where there is no compassion and no acceptance, where there is so much hostility, so much extremism, so much persecution and destruction of those who are different, the State of Israel is like an island: an island of progress, an island of tolerance and an island of security. I say this regarding all communities, but just recently we fought in Sweida to save our Druze brothers from total slaughter, and we protect them to this day. And regarding the Christian community, the State of Israel is the only place in the Middle East where the Christian community flourishes and grows, the only one. Everywhere else, they are persecuted, they emigrate, or they are slaughtered. Only here do they find their place, a home we all share. You know this, but the world is being swept along by the big lie. If the big lie is repeated again and again and again, that lie becomes accepted as truth. It’s been a deeply emotional weekend as we entered the Jewish New Year and also remembered and honored the victims of 9/11, but let me start by sending many blessings for a sweet, happy, prosperous, and peaceful 5787. The trumpets sounded throughout the Holy Land, and it was magnificent to experience again. It has such deep and profound spiritual meaning to enter the Jewish New Year. My prayer is that this new year will be one of peace, health, healing, happiness, prosperity, and success for the brave people of Israel who have endured unimaginable suffering and trauma. Especially all of our heroic soldiers and security forces who have been through, and are still going through, unimaginable loss, trauma, hardship, and war defending the Jewish Homeland; we embrace all of you.
