Sonic V2.2: Doubling the Contract Size Limit
V2.2 doubles Sonic's smart contract limits: deployed code from 24 KiB to 48 KiB, initialization code from 48 KiB to 96 KiB.
This is enabled by a new Simple Format Virtual Machine (SFVM), tested against 25M blocks of mainnet activity with no meaningful tradeoff. Developers get more room to build without splitting logic across contracts.
No changes for users or existing contracts.

V2.2: Sponsored Transactions
Sonic V2.2 expands transaction sponsorship. Beyond apps covering user gas fees, network-sponsored transactions can now remove the fee entirely for qualifying activity, no S required.
Successful-only sponsorship also means apps only pay when a transaction actually completes, not on failed attempts.

Why Sign Twice?
Built on Bundled Transactions, the delegate pattern lets users authorize an entire multi-step workflow with a single signature instead of one per step.
A temporary delegate account executes the sequence, all wrapped in one atomic bundle. Succeeds in full or rolls back entirely, funds never leave the user's wallet on failure.

V2.2: Bundled Transactions
Sonic V2.2 introduces Bundled Transactions: multiple transactions grouped into one atomic execution plan, enforced at the protocol level.
Approve and swap, bridge and deposit, repay and borrow all succeed or fail together, no more partial execution or stuck funds. Works with existing wallets, no migration needed.

Approaching Day 50

Minting Update
Our tokenomics provide for an annual mint of 47,625,000 S to fund Sonic's growth. The first allocation was minted on June 18, 2025.
This year, we did not mint it.
We are actively working toward no longer inflating the supply of S. The one question still open is validator rewards, since the network needs to fund its own security, and we are working on how to do that.
This decision comes in direct response to what our community and stakeholders have asked for.
We will share more details as the work continues.

Sonic Vertical Integration update
Early numbers are in and they're strong. VI revenue since March 1 has already hit ~400% the deflationary impact of all fee burns over the same period.
This is a narrow first implementation using only USSD and Metropolis vaults.
The broader model hasn't even started scaling yet.

Opera Sunset Update
Opera is being sunset on June 30, 2026 at 5:00 PM GMT.
If you're still using Fantom Opera mainnet or the Opera FTM → S bridge, make sure to migrate before the deadline or you'll lose the ability to convert FTM to S.
The ERC-20 FTM → S route and Sonic Gateway are not affected.
