This 7th century dragon-fish-shaped mount was found on the Thames at Barnes in 1977. It is made of brass with gold plate over the body and silver on the head and tail. There are 6 creatures identified as aquatic creatures from Anglo-Saxon shield mounts. While some of these have scales and fins that suggest they were pike, the others have "white-metal surfaces in whole or part, are larger (lengths 104–145 mm) and far less fish-like. ‘Fins’, if present, are arranged symmetrically in one or two triangular or hooked pairs, as if viewed from above." (Dickinson, T.M., 2005) The arm print from the werewolf hoodie is another example. I call these creatures dragon-fish since they share attributes with both the wyrms and fish which are used as apotropaic charms on shields, and evidently these creatures served the same function. I generated the reconstruction with AI

Even after Constantine was emperor and Xianity was spreading in 4th century Britain, mere decades before the Woden worshipers took over the island, the Corbridge silver lanx was made. It depicts a shrine to Apollo. This challenges narratives that depict Xianity as deeply ingrained when the Saxons arrived. It was found in the Tyne. The main scene on the dish shows the god Apollo at the entrance to a shrine, clasping a bow with a lyre at his feet. To his left enter the goddesses Artemis and Athena in conversation. The two female deities in the centre have not been conclusively determined. In front of the gods is depicted an altar, flanked by Artemis's hound, a fallen stag and a griffin. I suspect the thing on the bottom left is a jellyfish!

Inspired by the werewolves of Woden, I have launched a new hoodie with four new Heathen designs for the hairy handed gent. The backprint of two wolf warriors combines this Anglo-Saxon pressblech from Fen Drayton with a design from a sword scabbard from from Gutenstein, Germany. Each sleeve also boasts a unique Odinic Anglo-Saxon print: The right arm's runic dragon design is based on the 8th century seax fitting found in the Thames near Westminster bridge in London. The left sleeve print is taken from a 6th c. dragon-fish shield mount from Sutton Hoo. Evidently our ancestors put this monster on their shields for extra protection so that's a good reason to put it on a hoodie too. It is only available on a 100% pure cotton unisex hoodie in two colours: black and Blue jean. Style and power. In the Survive the Jive web shop now:

Fun fact: This little known English prog song from 1969 is about Njal's saga. The song refers to the foreshadowing of the burning of Njal's house by enemies. The frantic chorus (“I ride an icy stallion / Fire at each end and poison at the centre”) is a translation from the saga's text quoting the words of the black night rider witnessed by Hildiglum 9 weeks to winter: Here I ride swift steed, His flank flecked with rime, Rain from his mane drips, Horse mighty for harm; Flames flare at each end, Gall glows in the midst, So fares it with Flosi's redes As this flaming brand flies; And so fares it with Flosi's redes As this flaming brand flies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__T221p_aMk

NEW EPISODE — The Bog — Folkish Marriage https://www.hearthfireradio.com/watch?v=jSMeAgah We talk about forming heathen families, but how does that actually work? Where does a heathen man find a heathen woman? Where does a heathen woman find a heathen man? Or is it better to convert after marriage? Big Dave and a very special guest take you through what might be the most important question of all.
