Pollution, poaching and shrinking wetlands were making these fragile habitats increasingly difficult for migratory birds. Then 15 women and girls decided to do something about it. They began cleaning wetlands every Sunday, visiting schools and villages, and speaking about protecting birds and their habitats. Now..More than 1 lakh migratory birds returned to a Kashmir wetland this year ... nearly double the number seen earlier.

Help soon arrived .... a hand-operated tricycle, crutches, books, school supplies, government support and medical assistance. Even the road to her home repaired.
