In 2023, Jaouen Hadjam was benched by the Nantes manager after choosing to observe his Ramadan fast on matchdays.
A few months later, he was sold to Swiss football club Young Boys.
Three years later, the Algerian international has signed for Brighton and is set to play in the Premier League. This is a significant career upgrade from the French and Swiss leagues.
And the twist? Nantes have since been relegated to Ligue 2.
Stay firm on your principles and Allah will give you something better.

The Prophet ﷺ gave serious warnings about debt.
He ﷺ said: “The martyr is forgiven for every sin except debt.” (Sahih Muslim)
Even someone who gives their life in the path of Allah is not automatically freed from the rights they owe to others.
That’s how seriously Islam treats debt.
If you owe someone money, make paying it back a priority.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Delayed payment by a rich person is an act of injustice.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)
If you can pay, don’t keep delaying. Don’t make excuses. Don’t make the person chase you for what is rightfully theirs.
But if you are genuinely struggling and sincerely intend to repay, the Prophet ﷺ taught us a beautiful du’a: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, and from the burden of debt and being overpowered by others.” (Bukhari)
So make the intention. Speak to the person you owe and make a repayment plan.
And if you have the ability to pay, pay it before you leave this world.

Maitham Ali was upstairs at his family’s home in West London when he heard a commotion downstairs.
He rushed down to find his mum and grandmother panicking.
His two-day-old brother, Mohammad-Jawad, had vomited and was choking. He was turning blue and struggling to breathe.
But Maitham stayed calm.
He had received first aid training as a St John Ambulance Cadet and immediately told his mum what to do.
He instructed her to place the baby face-down across her arm, support his head, and give him back blows.
After just two back blows, Mohammad-Jawad started crying.
His airway had opened.
His mum, Raghad, said the baby’s colour returned, and he started breathing again.
“He was telling me what to do, making sure I stayed calm and making sure we got the ambulance called.” she said.
Maitham is only 13. But when his family was panicking, his first aid training meant he knew exactly what to do.
May Allah bless Maitham and his family.

Mosques across the UK are set to hold special Prayers for Rain (Salat al-Istisqa) on Sunday, as much of the country experiences severe drought.
The prolonged dry conditions are having a significant impact on farmers, wildlife and the environment, while placing increasing pressure on water supplies.
Salat al-Istisqa is a prayer established in the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), performed by Muslims during periods of drought as they turn to Allah with humility and ask for rain and mercy.
Hafidh Anas Khan, Operations Manager of Darul Ihsaan Mosque in Barking, told ilmfeed:
“Water is something many of us take for granted. Today, as much of the UK experiences severe drought and increasing pressure on our water supplies, Muslims are gathering to do what generations of Muslims before us have done in times of drought: turn to Allah with humility and ask for His mercy."

An 18-year-old hero has died after saving six people from drowning.
Ziad Mohamed Ahmed Mahmoud rushed into the sea after strong currents swept swimmers into the water off the coast of Alexandria, Egypt.
Without hesitation, he battled the powerful waves and brought six people safely back to shore.
But after his final rescue, exhaustion from fighting the powerful waves became too much, and Ziad was unable to make it back to shore.
His extraordinary courage and selfless sacrifice are now being remembered across Egypt.
May Allah grant Ziad the highest level of Jannah and accept him from among the martyrs. Ameen.

During the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the sun was eclipsed.
And it happened on the very day his young son Ibrahim passed away.
What happened next is remarkable.
The people began saying that the eclipse had occurred because Ibrahim had died. A rare celestial event had happened on the very day the Prophet ﷺ lost his son.
It would have been easy to allow people to believe it. But he didn't.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone's death or life.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
He ﷺ then instructed them to pray and supplicate to Allah.
Think about it.
If someone were inventing a claim of prophethood, wouldn't this have been the perfect opportunity? His son had just passed away.
The people were already connecting the eclipse to his son's death.
Yet instead of using the event to make it about himself, or presenting it as a miraculous sign that could strengthen his claim to prophethood, he ﷺ rejected the claim.
Instead, he told them: “Verily the sun and the moon are the two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse on account of the death of anyone or on account of the birth of anyone. So when you see them, supplicate Allah, and observe prayer till it is over.” (Sahih Muslim)
He directed the people towards Allah.
He had every opportunity to benefit from a remarkable event. The timing could hardly have been more striking: his son had just died, and the sun had eclipsed.
Yet he ﷺ corrected the people - even though the popular explanation could have made it appear that the eclipse was connected to his son's passing.
He chose to convey the truth rather than exploit the moment.
This is a powerful proof of the truthfulness of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his prophethood.
