One glance at thee, and all the world did fade,
Into a silent, distant, ghostly hum.
My heart, awoke, its first fierce beating made,
As breath did fail, and I stood frozen, dumb.
A joyful dread did pierce my fragile soul,
Fearing thy spirit knew me not... did it?
She
The music ceased, the voices died away,
As my dark eyes did meet thy burning glance.
Our pupils formed a tunnel through the gray,
Where souls did merge in one eternal trance.
Time backward flowed; I stood before thy face,
All paralyzed within this holy space.
A sweet, sharp longing mixed with sacred dread:
Thy noble soul forgot my own... hath it not?
He
I walked through darkness, led by thy pure light,
My reason fled, my thoughts were cast away.
I kissed thy hand beneath thy gaze so bright,
And lost my speech, with nothing more to say.
She
He soared like angel in the morning beam,
I lost my breath before this sign divine.
His lips touched my cold skin—a timeless dream,
Where our infinity began to shine.
He:
"Thou knowest me, my love, across the night... dost thou?"
She:
"Before the stars, thy spirit was my light... can I deny the echo of thy call?"
Reality returned, the vision fled,
Loud music roared, and noble voices stirred.
By ladies’ wit and lords’ deep laughter led,
The frozen clock regained its cruel word.
They had no choice but join the rushing cotillion,
To hide the speech of awkwardness and love,
From prying eyes that seek for hidden faults and their brillion,
And from themselves, beneath the lights above.
Yet their souls' blending did so brightly gleam,
The court, spellbound, could look no other way.
They whispered: Is this a dangerous flame?
They look as one, and fear no social shame... can they?
But for soulmates it's looks like divine immortal dream and the whispers breed myths and fairytales that still live today... can they?
