It is also given to reduce the side effects of Methotrexate and to enhance the anticancer effect of Fluorouracil. In addition, folic acid may improve fertility in both men and women. It also lowers homocysteine levels, which may reduce the risk of stroke, especially in elderly patients and those with cardiovascular disease.

Megaloblastic Anemia can occur due to prolonged Phenytoin/Phenobarbitone therapy; this is treated by Folic acid, but large doses should be avoided, because large doses may diminish their anticonvulsant effect

Adult: 0.2 mg/day. Pregnancy/Lactation: 0.8 mg/day. Oral folic acid: Safe حتى 15 mg. Always rule out Vitamin B12 deficiency before giving folic acid لأن Folic acid treats anemia, not the neurological manifestations of B12 deficiency.

Humans cannot synthesize folate, so it must be obtained from diet or supplements. Folate is essential for: DNA synthesis and repair. Acting as a cofactor in many biological reactions. Folic acid is the oxidized form of folate and must be converted in the liver to Tetrahydrofolate (THF), the active form, to be effectiv
