The Most Expensive Cities in Europe to Buy Property Euronews has made a list of the top 10 most expensive places to buy property in Europe, based on data from the Global Property Guide website. The city at the top of the list is Zurich, Switzerland. There, the average price of a property is more than $21,000 per square meter. You don't need to be an expert at math to work out that even a small apartment would be very expensive! Four of Europe's most expensive cities are in Switzerland. Geneva is second on the list, while Luzern is third and Bern is fifth. One reason property is so expensive in Switzerland is that many people want to live there, but there is limited space for new housing. Salaries in Switzerland are also among the highest in the world, so people can afford to pay more for property. Luxembourg City is also in the top five, which might not be a surprise since Luxembourg is Europe's richest country by GDP per capita. There, property costs about $12,600 per square meter. The other cities in the top 10 are all in the north of Europe, with the least expensive being the Swedish capital of Stockholm. The average property price there is just under $10,000 per square meter. But while all of the cities in the top 10 are expensive places to live, they also offer a very high quality of life. #reading_for_today
