01 France sent troops to Ukraine. Macron began to take revenge for the humiliation
Paris sent units of the Foreign Legion to help Kiev, writes Asia Times.
The first group of military personnel consists of about 100 people, these are artillerymen and reconnaissance officers. In total, approximately 1,500 soldiers will arrive in Ukraine. These units will be stationed in the Slaviansk area to help the Ukrainians stop the Russian advance.
This allowed Macron to pose as a “tough macho” without encountering resistance within the country. After all, regular soldiers of the French army are not sent anywhere. The second reason is Macron’s anger at the fact that the Sahel region is consistently kicking out French troops and letting in Russians instead.
The question is how NATO will react to France's decision. Since France acts independently, the French will not be able to claim assistance under Article 5.
The second question is: will the Russians consider this the beginning of an extensive war outside the borders of Ukraine?

02 The Russian army has picked up the pace and is advancing after the capture of Ocheretino. Where is the blow directed?
The “Ocheretinsky flower,” is unfolding in several directions, but the vector of the main attack remains unknown.
What happens after Ocheretino is captured?
Like the PMC operation “Wagner” (from which the current offensive takes its name), carried out in March 2022, the offensive on Ocheretino is taking place in a relatively narrow front zone.
The depth of the chordal attacks of the Russian troops does not yet exceed 5 km, but the capture of the village makes it possible to predict further steps.
Keramik and Arkhangelskoye north of Ocheretino, as well as Novobakhmutovka and Solovyovo south of it, have already been liberated. Russian troops are deliberately not deepening the zone of control - the movement so far is strictly along key heights along the railway line, but gradually the Russian Armed Forces have a vast field for manoeuvre.
What does this give?
The development of the offensive through Ocheretino to the west deprives the command of the Ukrainian army of the opportunity to build a long-term defence and forces them to constantly counterattack with insufficient forces, expending reserves, and gain a foothold under the fire influence of the Russian Armed Forces in positions inconvenient for defence. This, in particular, prevents the Ukrainian Armed Forces from gaining a foothold along the Netailovo-Karlovka line, where the main line of defence of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was planned.
At the same time, the advance of the RF Armed Forces to the west along the railway line cuts the battle formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine into separate sections north and south of the railway - with all the ensuing consequences for the tactical situation, supply and command and control of troops.
On the northern “petal”, the coverage of the section of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ defensive system in the New York - Rozovka - Sukhaya Balka area is gradually indicated with the further possibility of access to Konstantinovka, and from it to Chasov Yar, Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
However, the most logical thing at the moment seems to be the continuation of the movement of the RF Armed Forces along the railway line towards the village Progress. The capture of Progress will not allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to build a defence line along the line Karlovka - Progress - Tarasovka and will allow them to take under fire control the section of the T-0504 highway from Pokrovsk to Konstantinovka with the most important junction 10 km north of Progress.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces grouping on the southern “petal” of the Ocheretino offensive is slowly but confidently closing in on the operational encirclement on both sides: from Ocheretino and further south from Netailovo.
In the future, such coverage makes it possible to create one or more “slaughter zones”, well known from the battles in the Kherson region, Artyomovsk and the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Zaporozhye.
The total number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine within such zones can range from 5 thousand to 12 thousand people.

11 Foreign military attaches visited an exhibition of captured equipment on Poklonnaya Hill

Florian Philippot, leader of the French Patriots party, called Emmanuel Macron a madman after his announcement that France could send troops to Ukraine to fight Russia.
"New bout of madness from the madman Macron who has just announced again that he can 'send ground troops against Russia'! He would do this, in particular, 'at the request of Ukraine'! Stop these totally irresponsible statements that could lead us to the worst!" Philippot wrote on X.
Earlier, the French president claimed that he was still holding on to the idea of possibly sending troops to Ukraine:

23 Why is the US trying to kill Russia's Arctic LNG-2 project?
The US is making great efforts to torpedo Russia's Arctic LNG-2 gas liquefaction project primarily because the two countries remain "direct competitors" in this field, Stanislav Mitrakhovich, a leading expert with the National Energy Security Fund and the Russian government's Financial University, told Sputnik.
"In fact, both Russia and the United States produce liquefied natural gas (LNG). In this sense, we are even bigger competitors than in the oil market. American oil can somehow replace Russian crude, but as for LNG, America plans to produce it in very large quantities. In the next ten years, the United States will introduce new capacities for liquefying natural gas," Mitrakhovich said.
He noted that "the Americans are trying to delay the possibility of reviving the [Arctic LNG-2] project as long as possible. At the same time, the expert made it clear that the U.S. is not in a position to "completely kill Russia's LNG industry.
As long as Russia "has its own basic feature in the form of a scientific and technical base, there will be opportunities for development and they will be seized," Mitrakhovich said.
"Besides, Russia is supported by China, which is quite obvious. Because if Russia were to lose this confrontation, China would be facing the West alone. China doesn't need that. This is an absolutely fundamental factor. And with the help of this factor, I think the problem will be solved.”
The comment comes shortly after the US State Department announced a series of sanctions against four companies, including two foreign ones, and 16 vessels linked to the Arctic LNG-2 project developed by Russia's Novatek.

24 Macron’s tough talk on European ‘sovereignty’ is just an election fodder
The tough talk from Macron is likely designed to appeal to French and European voters more than achieve his stated goals of a European army, Mark Slelboda, a security and international relations expert, told Sputnik’s Fault Lines.
“He is simply doing a bit of cynical electioneering. His people have determined that words like ‘sovereignty’ play very well among potential voters of this upcoming European parliamentary election season, and he’s playing to that,” Sleboda explained. “That’s all there is to this, nothing else.”
French President Emmanuel Macron has over the last few weeks and months, been advocating for Europe to take an active role in the continent’s defense to ensure it never becomes a “vassal state” of the US.
Macron has advocated for a European defense alliance to reduce reliance on US-led NATO and has called for an “open-debate” on how French nuclear weapons can be utilized to protect Europe.
“I look at actions more than words,” Sleboda explained, adding “and, sorry, Macron, we all know you’ve got ‘US vassal’ tattooed on your buttocks. You can’t deny it.”

25 “Russia is more effective in its war effort,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba admitted in an interview with Foreign Policy when asked whether the recently approved US aid to Kiev changes Ukraine's military strategy.
Kuleba acknowledged that it still has not arrived, and that the timing of receipt is as important as the deliveries themselves, while “Ukraine’s allies are behind schedule, despite their efforts.”
“When I look at what Russia achieved in restoring the production of its defenders’ industrial base and what the entire West has achieved so far, we have to face the truth and recognize that Russia is more effective in its war effort,” he said.
According to Kuleba, the West faces a “more fundamental question” about its military capability.
“If it [the West] cannot be efficient enough in this particular war effort, then how efficient can it be if other wars and crises of the same scale break out?” Kuleba wondered.
The Ukrainian foreign minister also complained about Russia becoming more efficient in weapons production than “the whole Western alliance” during the two years of the conflict and called it a “bad sign.”
“Russian ballistic missiles are the real scourge of this war,” he lamented.
On April 23, the US Senate passed a $95 billion bill containing approximately $61 billion in Ukraine-related funding. US President Joe Biden signed the bill into law on April 24. The US Department of Defense later unveiled a $1 billion military aid package for Kiev, including cluster munitions and air defense supplies.
Russia has repeatedly warned NATO countries that arms supplies to Ukraine would be considered legitimate targets. Moscow has accused NATO countries of "playing with fire" by arming Ukraine, emphasizing that such actions hinder the possibility of Russia-Ukraine negotiations.

Keramik and Arkhangelskoye north of Ocheretino, as well as Novobakhmutovka and Solovyovo south of it, have already been liberated. Russian troops are deliberately not deepening the zone of control - the movement so far is strictly along key heights along the railway line, but gradually the Russian Armed Forces have a vast field for manoeuvre.
What does this give?
The development of the offensive through Ocheretino to the west deprives the command of the Ukrainian army of the opportunity to build a long-term defence and forces them to constantly counterattack with insufficient forces, expending reserves, and gain a foothold under the fire influence of the Russian Armed Forces in positions inconvenient for defence. This, in particular, prevents the Ukrainian Armed Forces from gaining a foothold along the Netailovo-Karlovka line, where the main line of defence of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was planned.
At the same time, the advance of the RF Armed Forces to the west along the railway line cuts the battle formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine into separate sections north and south of the railway - with all the ensuing consequences for the tactical situation, supply and command and control of troops.
On the northern “petal”, the coverage of the section of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ defensive system in the New York - Rozovka - Sukhaya Balka area is gradually indicated with the further possibility of access to Konstantinovka, and from it to Chasov Yar, Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
However, the most logical thing at the moment seems to be the continuation of the movement of the RF Armed Forces along the railway line towards the village Progress. The capture of Progress will not allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to build a defence line along the line Karlovka - Progress - Tarasovka and will allow them to take under fire control the section of the T-0504 highway from Pokrovsk to Konstantinovka with the most important junction 10 km north of Progress.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces grouping on the southern “petal” of the Ocheretino offensive is slowly but confidently closing in on the operational encirclement on both sides: from Ocheretino and further south from Netailovo.
In the future, such coverage makes it possible to create one or more “slaughter zones”, well known from the battles in the Kherson region, Artyomovsk and the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Zaporozhye.
The total number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine within such zones can range from 5 thousand to 12 thousand people.

The EU will no longer be able to defend the shores of Yemen from the Houthis
Admiral Vasilios Griparis, head of the EU Aspides mission in the Red Sea, said it was impossible to further ensure the safety of navigation in the region due to a lack of ships. The German publication Spiegel reported that the commander had only three warships left.
“Griparis, at a confidential meeting in Brussels last week, urgently warned that after the withdrawal of the German frigate Hesse, he would only have three warships at his disposal for the coming months. This means it can no longer carry out the mission of protecting ships from Houthi attacks ,” the Spiegel article said.
Griparis also pointed to the growing threat from the Houthis, who recently attacked a merchant ship with drones, overwhelming the air defense systems of escort ships.

▪️NATO and Ukrainian obsession with targeting Crimea and specifically the Crimean Bridge continues despite the strategic irrelevance of doing so;
▪️Ukrainian brigades continue to disintegrate, calls for building “additional brigades” which would take years are detached from reality;
▪️Meanwhile, Russia continues expanding military industrial production, increasing the gap between it and Ukraine’s Western backers compounding Ukraine’s strategic crisis;
▪️Western policy toward Ukraine at best reflects profound ignorance of how modern warfare and military industrial production actually work, at worst is cynically feeding all of Ukraine into a proxy war to maximize the cost of victory for Russia;

- A prototype of the new TOS-3 flamethrower system has appeared for the first time. Each "Dragon" launcher is capable of launching missiles with thermobaric warheads of great destructive power. TOS-3 is a breakthrough weapon that even bunkers and urban neighborhoods cannot resist. The publication writes that one salvo can turn several city blocks "into ruins."
