The dinner table became a gathering of political influence under the guise of a memorial event: the Israeli Prime Minister at its centre, surrounded by those who protect, finance, and provide him with political cover. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Sehnaoui offered the seat, the table, and the honour of hospitality to the man whom the author accuses of killing his country's people, destroying their homes, and displacing the residents of southern Lebanon. According to the author, Sehnaoui appeared as the head of a political household, wielding wealth, media influence, and extensive relationships, and placing them all at the service of the position he has chosen for himself within the American-Israeli network of power. A Lebanese banker, the author argues, has become an intermediary between the man held responsible for his country's suffering and the centres of decision-making that arm him. The text further contends that media and influence are then used to frame this choice in the language of realism, national interest, and political prudence.
