Why has God appointed faith as the means by which we receive salvation? Because faith leaves no room for the sinner to boast. If salvation depended even partly on what we could contribute, then some portion of the glory would belong to us. We could point to our morality, our discipline, our decisions, our religious effort, or even the strength of our faith and say, “I did my part.” Scripture shuts that door completely. Paul asks, “Where then is boasting? It is excluded” (Romans 3:27). He then says that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law (Romans 3:28). God saves in such a way that the sinner arrives with nothing in his hands and leaves with everything in Christ. Faith does not earn salvation. Faith receives Christ. That distinction matters. The power is not in the strength of our believing, but in the Saviour whom faith receives. A weak hand can still receive a priceless gift because the value lies in the gift, not in the hand. This is why Paul says, “For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace” (Romans 4:16). Faith and grace belong together because faith contributes no merit. It looks away from self and rests entirely upon Another. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9). The gospel therefore humiliates human pride before it comforts the sinner. We are not saved because we were wiser, more spiritual, more willing, or more worthy than others. We are saved because God was merciful. Even our boasting is redirected. Paul says God saves “so that no man may boast before God” and then concludes, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:29, 31). That is why salvation is by grace through faith. NEW: CBP confirms to Fox News that effective immediately, it is ending its participation in a Biden era policy that allows DHS to accept and solicit gifts and donations for the care of illegal aliens in federal custody. The original policy was signed by Biden's Deputy DHS Secretary, John K. Lien, on 5/3/2022.
