We were at the play and I motioned to two of the actors closing in "haha they're kissing"
Friend said but they're both boys? 🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀
Got invited to a sleepover so obviously I felt like I had to die; asked three different tarot websites yes or no (should I go) and all three gave such a distinct yes that maybe this tarot shit kinda hates me

Typing the rest of what I wanted to say;
It's not Wholly fear I think, fear of Mamdani instilling, or even believing in Sharia Law. It goes in such stark opposition of reality, of his character and policies. It's so easily disproven. There's a hint of something else at play, in that fear. Akin to jealousy.
Iranians at large distaste and disavowal of Shia muslims system of governance is rooted in their own oppressed, lived reality. But that doesn't extend to every individual Shia muslim, it shouldn't. No matter how valid your negative feelings of Shia muslims, it's still a biased one. It's never been the individual religious person; try as you might, you'll never fully be rid of religion and religiosity, not in our lifetime. It's the institution that uses religion to exert power and control. Institutionalized religion breeds authoritarianism, and authoritarianism attracts the worst of us.
But New York isn't like Iran— Boldest statement ever made— it's not governed by a religious institution. Mamdani is not acting within his faith in his governance, he's acting in a secular manner. The best he can, for all.
You're not so much so afraid of Mamdani being an evil sharia law shia, in some ways, you WANT him to fit that fear mongering stereotype. You want the people of New York to be punished in some way for ever trusting a shia muslim. You want to be proven the reality that all Shia muslims are evil! But the more that people like Mamdani exist, people who are religious (idk how religious he is) and still do good for everybody. The more you realize that it was never the individual, often the institution. You are proven wrong in your blanket hate of ALL religious people, and it makes you biased and judgmental, sort of an exact replica of the religious zealots who hate you. You see more of yourself in the people you hate, than the people you oppose. And that's tough. So it cannot be you that's wrong. All shia muslims have to be evil. Mamdani has to prove that. He has to be evil, lest you believe that maybe you too have hate in your heart.
