Ride-hailing giant @Uber exits Nigeria after 12 years
Uber, the US-based ride-hailing company that operates in eight African countries, is winding down its operations in Nigeria, marking its exit after twelve years.
āWe are writing to share some difficult news,ā Uber said in an email to customers on Wednesday. āAfter a thorough review of our business, we have made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective 2 September 2026.ā
Uberās exit ends a 12-year run in Nigeria, one of its earliest markets, where it launched in 2014. The company helped build the countryās ride-hailing market, but is leaving as intensifying competition, rising operating costs, and growing regulatory pressure have made the market harder to navigate.

WhatsApp to start charging businesses for their replies ā¼ļø
In a major shift, businesses will start paying for replies to customers on the WhatsApp Business platform. Starting from October 1, the free feature will end, and every reply will come with a cost. Specifically, the free-form replies apply to a message a chatbot sends inside the 24-hour window that opens when a customer messages first. By September, Meta said it will publish billing rates and necessary terms and conditions.
