One of the mysterious aspects of IELTS writing is how your score is calculated. The common knowledge is this: ((T1 + T2 + T2) / 3). However, based on many breakdowns, this formula seems far from correct. I have spoken to some examiners about this, and they admitted that even they don't quite know how your overall score for writing is calculated. However, my colleague and friend Farrux Rustamov from Everest has come up with this formula based on hundreds of breakdowns he analyzed:

Overall = [ SUM(Task 1 Criteria) + 2 * SUM(Task 2 Criteria) ] / 12,

This honestly seems to be a fairer way of assessing because you are not calculating averages twice; once for getting T1 and T2 average and then to get their overall.
