One of the biggest upgrades in Polkadot staking is getting closer.
If Ref 1910 excuted, nominators will no longer be exposed to slashing, while the unbonding period will be reduced to 2 days.

That reserve flow is the foundation.
But reserve backing is only the first layer.
vDOT reserves are held by Bifrost’s sovereign account, which has no private key. It can only be controlled through protocol logic or OpenGov governance.
This means there is no single private key that can simply move the underlying DOT reserves.
Even in an extreme parachain compromise scenario, unstaking DOT still requires time, creating a governance response window before reserves can be moved.

Over the past 12 months, the 1,000,000 DOT liquidity loan generated 53,185.39 DOT in interest, achieving a blended APR of 5.318%.
Bifrost is now withdrawing from the DOT-vDOT LP, unstaking vDOT, and returning the interest to the Polkadot Treasury.
The loan helped deepen vDOT liquidity, expand DOT staking utility across DeFi, and support broader adoption across the Polkadot ecosystem.

Hyperbridge Exploit Review
Bifrost integrates with @hyperbridge to provide cross-chain vToken minting and redemption services across multiple networks, including Ethereum, Base , Arbitrum , Optimism, and BNBCHAIN
Following the recent security incident involving Hyperbridge, the Bifrost team responded immediately and implemented a series of protective measures.
Full Asset Audit
All vToken reserves on Bifrost remain secure.
A detailed breakdown is as follows:
vDOT: Secure. However, vDOT that had been bridged to Base via Hyperbridge were exposed. The exploit only affected mirrored assets already existing on Base. No new vTokens were minted on Bifrost.
vETH / vMANTA / vASTR / vPHA / vBNC: Fully secure. Total issuance remains 1:1 backed by on-chain reserves.
vKSM: Not affected, as it is not integrated with Hyperbridge.
Any ETH or MANTA losses are limited to Hyperbridge's own reserves and are entirely unrelated to Bifrost's vToken operations.
Actions Taken
Upon learning of the security incident, our team acted immediately to eliminate any risk of further exposure. The following measures have been implemented:
Cross-chain channels closed. All cross-chain communication channels between Bifrost and Hyperbridge have been suspended. No messages can be transmitted in either direction until the situation is fully resolved.
Mint and burn permissions revoked. Hyperbridge's authority to mint or burn any vTokens has been revoked until the situation is fully resolved. This eliminates the possibility of any further anomalous minting at the source.
Cross-chain services suspended. All vToken minting and redemption services conducted via Hyperbridge have been suspended until further notice.
Unaffected Services
The following core functionalities remain fully operational:
- All native features on Bifrost-Polkadot chain (staking, swapping, lending, etc.)
- Cross-chain operations within the Polkadot ecosystem via XCM
- Holding, transferring, and utilizing vTokens on the Bifrost chain
Next Steps
- Continue working closely with the Hyperbridge team to complete a full security assessment
- Evaluate safe conditions for restoring cross-chain services
- Provide timely updates to the community as progress is made
Final Note
The security of user funds is the highest priority for Bifrost. We acted swiftly to isolate all exposure points and have confirmed that our on-chain reserves remain sound.
