🚨 ANOTHER MOVE AWAY FROM THE LEGACY CITY OF LONDON SYSTEM?
This one deserves attention.
Venezuela is reportedly nearing a deal to move roughly 31 metric tons — about $4 BILLION — of its sovereign gold reserves out of the Bank of England and into the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. (Financial Times)
Think about the direction of travel:

These reserves have effectively been trapped in a seven-year legal battle dating back to 2019 over who had legitimate authority to control Venezuela’s gold. The dispute even reached the UK Supreme Court. (Financial Times)
Under the deal currently being negotiated, Venezuela’s interim government would obtain legal control of the gold, but would not simply be allowed to sell it. The bullion would reportedly remain supervised and restricted and could potentially be pledged as collateral for financing. The Bank of England says a further UK court order is still required before it can act. (Financial Times)
Now zoom out.
We’ve been tracking the broader global struggle over who controls sovereign reserves, where gold is custodied, how international transactions are settled, and whether the financial architecture built around London and other legacy centers remains dominant.
Viewed through the lens of a broader operation to end the City of London controls, the symbolism is impossible to miss:
$4 BILLION IN SOVEREIGN GOLD COULD BE LEAVING LONDON.
And importantly, it isn’t being dumped for fiat.
The gold remains the asset.
The custody changes.
The control structure changes.
