3. It has been developed by tiger and protected area experts, officially launched in 2013 (1st Asian Parks Congress, Japan).
4. It is a set of criteria which allows tiger sites to check if their management will lead to successful tiger conservation.
5. It sets minimum standards for effective management of target species and encourages assessment of these standards in relevant conservation areas.
6. It is organised under seven pillars and 17 elements of critical management activity
a. Five of these pillars are applicable to conservation area management in general and represent the Conservation Assured (CA) aspect of the scheme; the two final pillars focus specifically on management issues related to tiger conservation – the Tiger Standards (TS).
7. It is an important part of Tx2, the global goal to double wild tiger numbers by the year 2022.
8. The Global Tiger Forum (GTF) and World Wildlife Fund India are the two implementing partners of the National Tiger Conservation Authority for CA|TS assessment in India.
HOW DOES CA|TS WORK AND WHO IS USING IT?
Sites taking part will initially be ‘registered’ (standards not yet attained) then, when all required standards are met, ‘approved’ (standards achieved). An approved site has achieved excellence in tiger site management.
