Different types of Methanol (Carbon Footprint & Source) 1. Gray Methanol (Natural Gas-based): Produced from fossil natural gas via steam methane reforming (SMR). It is currently the most common type of commercial methanol but emits significant CO₂. 2. Brown Methanol (Coal-based): Produced by gasifying coal; it has a high carbon footprint and offers minimal to no greenhouse gas reductions. 3. Blue Methanol (Low-carbon): Produced from natural gas (or blue hydrogen) combined with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) to trap and store CO₂ emissions. 4. Green Methanol (Renewable/Net-zero): Produced using renewable energy sources, split into two main sub-types: a. Bio-methanol: Derived from sustainable biomass or organic waste gasification. b. E-methanol: Synthesized by combining green hydrogen (from water electrolysis using renewable electricity) with captured carbon dioxide (CO₂). #Energy #Fuels
