🟢 India highlighted its forest & landscape restoration initiatives at the 28th Session of FAO’s Committee on Forestry (COFO 28) in Rome, 28 Sept–2 Oct 2026.
🟢 India emphasised sustainable forest management, climate action and resilient forest landscapes.
📍 India’s Forest Progress
🟢 Forest & tree cover: 82.74 million hectares → 25.17% of geographical area.
🟢 FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment 2025: India ranks 9th globally in forest area and 3rd in net annual forest-area gain.
🟢 India has created an additional carbon sink of 2.29 billion tonnes CO₂e by 2021.
🟢 Target: additional 3.5–4.0 billion tonnes CO₂e carbon sink by 2035 compared with 2005 levels.
📍 Major Restoration Initiatives
🟢 Bonn Challenge: India committed to restore 26 million hectares of degraded/deforested land by 2030; 21.76 million hectares already brought under restoration.

🟢 भारत ने FAO की वानिकी समिति (COFO 28) के 28वें सत्र में अपनी वन एवं परिदृश्य पुनर्स्थापन पहलों को प्रमुखता से प्रस्तुत किया। यह सत्र रोम में 28 सितंबर–2 अक्टूबर 2026 को आयोजित हुआ।
🟢 भारत ने सतत वन प्रबंधन, जलवायु कार्रवाई और लचीले वन परिदृश्य पर जोर दिया।
📍 भारत में वनों की प्रगति
🟢 वन एवं वृक्ष आवरण: 82.74 मिलियन हेक्टेयर → भौगोलिक क्षेत्र का 25.17%।
🟢 FAO वैश्विक वन संसाधन आकलन 2025: भारत वन क्षेत्रफल में विश्व स्तर पर 9वें स्थान पर तथा शुद्ध वार्षिक वन क्षेत्र वृद्धि में तीसरे स्थान पर है।

🟢 अरावली ग्रीन वॉल: पुनर्स्थापन के लिए लगभग 6.45 मिलियन हेक्टेयर क्षरित भूमि की पहचान की गई है।
🟢 मिष्टी (MISHTI): तटीय क्षेत्रों में मैंग्रोव पुनर्स्थापन को बढ़ावा देता है, जिससे जलवायु के प्रति लचीलापन मजबूत होता है और आजीविका को समर्थन मिलता है।

🟢 अंतरराष्ट्रीय सहयोग को देश-आधारित कार्यान्वयन, क्षमता निर्माण, प्रौद्योगिकी हस्तांतरण और जमीनी स्तर पर मापनीय परिणामों का समर्थन करना चाहिए।

✅ India remains the world’s leading milk producer, accounting for nearly 25% of global output.
