🟢 India highlighted its forest & landscape restoration initiatives at the 28th Session of FAO’s Committee on Forestry (COFO 28) in Rome, 28 Sept–2 Oct 2026.
🟢 India emphasised sustainable forest management, climate action and resilient forest landscapes.

🟢 Forest & tree cover: 82.74 million hectares → 25.17% of geographical area.
🟢 FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment 2025: India ranks 9th globally in forest area and 3rd in net annual forest-area gain.
🟢 India has created an additional carbon sink of 2.29 billion tonnes CO₂e by 2021.
🟢 Target: additional 3.5–4.0 billion tonnes CO₂e carbon sink by 2035 compared with 2005 levels.

🟢 भारत ने FAO की वानिकी समिति (COFO 28) के 28वें सत्र में अपनी वन एवं परिदृश्य पुनर्स्थापन पहलों को प्रमुखता से प्रस्तुत किया। यह सत्र रोम में 28 सितंबर–2 अक्टूबर 2026 को आयोजित हुआ।
🟢 भारत ने सतत वन प्रबंधन, जलवायु कार्रवाई और लचीले वन परिदृश्य पर जोर दिया।
📍 भारत में वनों की प्रगति
🟢 वन एवं वृक्ष आवरण: 82.74 मिलियन हेक्टेयर → भौगोलिक क्षेत्र का 25.17%।

🌾 भारत में हरित क्रांति का नेतृत्व किया।
🌱 गेहूँ एवं धान की उच्च उपज देने वाली (HYV) किस्मों के प्रसार में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।
🇮🇳 भारत को खाद्यान्न उत्पादन में आत्मनिर्भर बनाने में अहम योगदान दिया।
🤝 नॉर्मन बोरलॉग के साथ मिलकर कार्य किया।
🌍 "एवरग्रीन रिवोल्यूशन (Evergreen Revolution)" की अवधारणा दी, जिसका उद्देश्य पर्यावरण संरक्षण के साथ कृषि उत्पादन बढ़ाना है।
🏛️ भारतीय कृषि अनुसंधान परिषद (ICAR) के महानिदेशक (1972–1979) रहे।
🌾 वर्ष 1988 में चेन्नई में एम. एस. स्वामीनाथन रिसर्च फाउंडेशन (MSSRF) की स्थापना की।
🏆 1987 में विश्व खाद्य पुरस्कार (World Food Prize) प्राप्त करने वाले प्रथम भारतीय बने।
🇮🇳 पद्मश्री (1967), पद्म भूषण (1972) और पद्म विभूषण (1989) से सम्मानित हुए।
🥇 2024 में मरणोपरांत भारत रत्न से सम्मानित किए गए।

🚜 राष्ट्रीय किसान आयोग (2004) के अध्यक्ष रहे, जिसे स्वामीनाथन आयोग के नाम से जाना जाता है।
💰 आयोग ने न्यूनतम समर्थन मूल्य (MSP) को समग्र लागत (C2) + 50% के आधार पर निर्धारित करने की सिफारिश की।
🌱 सतत कृषि, जैव विविधता संरक्षण एवं जलवायु-अनुकूल कृषि के प्रबल समर्थक थे।
