The blessed month - Al-Muharram | Shaykh Saleh al-Fawzan حفظه الله

Fast 'Ashurā (10th of Muharram) whilst keeping in mind these multiple intentions and reap many more rewards! 1. Intend obedience to the command of the Messenger ﷺ and seeking to follow him as he used to fast that day. 2. Intend to fast in order to give thanks to Allāh that he saved Mūsa (alaihissalaam) and the believers on that day from Pharaoh. 3. Intend to fast that day because it is from the days of the month of Muharram and is the best fasting after the fasting of Ramadān. 4. Affirm and believe in the statement of the Messenger that Allāh will forgive the previous minor sins for the one who fasts 'Ashurā. Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: “Do you think the righteous do not commit sins? They simply hid them and didn’t expose them... And sought forgiveness for them and did not insist on them... And admitted to them and did not justify them... And did goodness after they did wrong... One of the salaf was asked, “How is the relationship between you and your religion?” He said, “it is shredded by sins, and I patch it with seeking forgiveness (isitighfār). 💎 Fasting on Āshūrā’ Even While Traveling Muhammad ibn Shihab al-Zuhri was traveling and he still fasted on the day of Āshūrā’. So it was said to him: You fast on the day of Āshūrā’ while traveling and you break your fast in Ramadhān? So he replied: Ramadhān can be made up on other days. However, Āshūrā’ will be missed.
