Not gonna lie, most students have absolutely no idea how much work/studying is actually required to level up linguistically. To make it worse, social media has ruined the concept of hard work. There is absolutely nothing romantic about studying hard. There is no background music. There is no aesthetic desk setup that magically makes it easier. There is no moment where it suddenly feels good. It's just you, exhausted and most likely depressed, staring at the same paragraph for like the fourth time, at midnight, questioning everything (saying fuck it) and doing it anyway.
To me (at least), that’s pure hard work - unglamorous, uncomfortable. I mean yeah, you basically feel like you’re eating broken pieces of glass. Yet it is the only way.

Whenever someone is touched by hardship, they cry out to Us, whether lying on their side, sitting, or standing. But when We relieve their hardship, they return to their old ways as if they had never cried to Us to remove any hardship! This is how the misdeeds of the transgressors have been made appealing to them.

🤔 “IF YOU DON’T MIND MY ASKING” vs “IF YOU DON’T MIND ME ASKING”
Which one is correct? 👇
✅ IF YOU DON’T MIND ME ASKING
What’s the procedure, if you don’t mind me asking?
This is the more common and natural expression, especially in everyday English.
Here, me is the object of mind, and asking is a participle:
👉 mind + object + -ing
👉 mind me asking
✅ IF YOU DON’T MIND MY ASKING
This is also grammatically correct, but it sounds more formal and somewhat old-fashioned.
Here, my is a possessive determiner modifying asking:
👉 mind + possessive + -ing
👉 mind my asking
It emphasizes the act of asking rather than the person.
🧠 EASY RULE
After verbs like mind, we commonly use:
mind + object + -ing
✅ Do you mind me opening the window?
✅ Would you mind him joining us?
✅ Do you mind me asking a question?
📌 For natural everyday English, “me asking” is usually the better choice.
🎯 IELTS/TOEFL TIP:
Both forms are grammatically acceptable. In speaking, “if you don’t mind me asking” is more natural and commonly used.
💬 Which sounds more natural to you?
What’s the procedure, if you don’t mind me asking? 👌

| 9 | The Darkest Nights Produce the Brightest Stars
Literal Meaning: On the darkest nights, when there is no moon and no city lights, the stars appear most bright and beautiful. They are always there, but we only notice them when the sky is truly dark.
Figurative Meaning: This proverb teaches us that our hardest, most painful moments — the "darkest nights" of our lives — are often what bring out our greatest strengths and qualities. Just as stars shine brightest against a black sky, our courage, resilience, and wisdom become most visible when we face difficulty.
Key Lesson: Suffering and success are connected. The struggles you go through today are shaping the strong, wise person you will become tomorrow. When life feels hopeless, remember that something beautiful is being born inside you.

| 20 | 📖 Why I’m Starting to Believe Reading Is More Powerful Than Listening
When I first started learning English, I was convinced that listening to podcasts was the number-one way to improve my overall English.
But recently, my mind has started to change.
I’m beginning to see reading as an incredibly powerful tool because, unlike listening alone, reading can engage both receptive and productive skills.
Think about it: when you read, you don’t just process the words—you can also silently “speak” the sentences in your head. That constant mental speaking gives you exposure to natural sentence structures, vocabulary, and expressions that can eventually feed into your own speaking.
And it doesn’t stop there.
Reading can also support your listening skills. When you read a sentence and mentally pronounce it, you are simultaneously connecting the written form with its sound. Over time, this can help you recognize words and structures more easily when you hear them in real conversations.
So, while I still believe podcasts are extremely useful, I’m starting to think that reading deserves a much bigger place in my English-learning routine.
Maybe the best approach isn’t reading vs. listening.
It’s reading + listening + speaking. 🚀 | 204 |
