🏢 Skydance Acquires Warner Bros. Games in Paramount-WBD Deal
Skydance has completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing a major gaming portfolio under new ownership — though the company's official announcement made no mention of video games.
The deal gives Skydance control of Avalanche Software (Hogwarts Legacy), NetherRealm (Mortal Kombat), Rocksteady (Batman: Arkham), TT Games, and several WB Games studios. Skydance's own Paramount Games Studio — home to Amy Hennig's Star Wars project and Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra — is already active.
The press release flagged a target of at least $6 billion in "run-rate synergies within three years," with savings described as coming primarily from "technology, integration, procurement, marketing and real estate rationalization" — language that typically signals layoffs. GameSpot has contacted Skydance for clarification on its games strategy.

| 2 | 🛠 NBA 2K25 to Be Delisted and Shut Down by End of 2026
2K Sports has confirmed NBA 2K25 will be removed from sale on October 30, 2026, with full discontinuation on December 31, 2026.
Starting January 1, 2027, only Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA will remain playable offline. The online-dependent MyCareer and MyTeam modes — including single-player functionality — will go dark on January 1, 2026, along with all multiplayer and virtual currency access. Owners can still redownload and play offline-compatible modes after shutdown.
Released in October 2024, NBA 2K25 will have had roughly two years of full online support — consistent with 2K's pattern: NBA 2K24 was discontinued January 31, 2026, and NBA 2K23 a year before that.

| 3 | 🎮 Nolan North Open to Uncharted 5, With One Condition
Nathan Drake actor Nolan North says he would "110%" return for a new Uncharted game, but only if Naughty Dog doesn't produce something that undermines the franchise's legacy — citing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as a cautionary example.
North made the comments at Gamergy in Puerto Rico before recent rumors surfaced. He confirmed he has not been contacted about a new game, but called the prospect "the biggest announcement in gaming."
According to multiple sources, Uncharted 5 is reportedly Naughty Dog's next project after Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet — itself reportedly due in 2027 — with Nathan Drake said to appear in some capacity. A third The Last of Us game is reportedly planned to follow. Given Sony's expected PS6 launch around 2028, Uncharted 5 would likely be a next-gen title.

| 4 | 🏢 Ninja Theory Begins Laying Off Staff Ahead of Studio Closure
Ninja Theory, the studio behind the Hellblade series, has started informing employees they are at risk of redundancy. The layoffs follow Microsoft's announcement that the studio will close, after two separate acquisition deals fell through following its split from Xbox.
The redundancy process comes in the wake of a second wave of broader Xbox cuts last week, with the studio's consultation period with Microsoft now appearing to have concluded.

Capcom has announced plans to transform its in-house RE Engine — used across the Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Monster Hunter series — into what it describes as an "AI-generation game engine."
The company has not clarified whether this refers to generative AI tools embedded in the development pipeline or a broader architectural shift, and no timeline or technical details were provided.

| 11 | 🏢 Disney Exec Denies Epic Games Buyout Talks "Right Now"
Disney's Dana Walden has directly addressed rumors of a full Epic Games acquisition, telling Bloomberg's Screentime event: "Those are not the conversations we're having right now. But we have a great partnership."
Disney invested over $1.5 billion in Epic for an equity stake and is collaborating on new games, including ongoing Fortnite integrations. Walden said "a number of launches coming up over the next two years are going to demonstrate the value of this partnership."
The denial doesn't kill the speculation entirely. Technology reporter Alex Heath recently said he knows "for a fact" that some senior Disney executives want to buy Epic and are waiting for the right moment — while others inside the company oppose the idea. Former Disney executive Kevin Mayer also suggested new Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro may need to make "bold steps" in gaming, potentially including an Epic acquisition. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney retains full voting control of the company, giving him unilateral say over any such deal.

| 13 | 🏢 Activision Reportedly Planning Full Halo Reboot at Sledgehammer
According to sources cited by Halo and Xbox insider Rebs Gaming, Activision is considering a full reboot of the Halo series after taking over the franchise from Microsoft's 343 Industries/Halo Studios.
Sledgehammer Games is understood to be leading development, with the studio having already built conceptual prototypes — including a free-to-play multiplayer concept and a story campaign — using the Infinity Ward engine. Rebs Gaming notes the prototypes don't confirm the final game will run on Call of Duty's engine, but say it's "definitely possible."
Earlier plans for a soft reboot that preserved established canon have reportedly been scrapped in favor of a fuller reset. A sequel to Halo Infinite is said to be unlikely. Nothing has been officially confirmed, and Rebs Gaming stresses that details remain fluid.

| 14 | 🎮 GTA 6 Launches November 19 With Overhauled Weather and Scale
Rockstar has detailed two major technical pillars of Grand Theft Auto 6 ahead of its November 19 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
VP of art Owen Shepherd told Game Informer the studio "re-engineered" its weather system to make conditions in Florida stand-in Leonida "more localized and persistent." In practice that means fully dynamic cloudscapes, localized rain showers, persistent wet surfaces and puddles, rainbows, a new wind system affecting hair, debris and water, and full tropical storms and hurricanes. Whether extreme weather affects structures or gameplay was not addressed.
Rockstar boss Aaron Garbut added that unlike typical open-world trade-offs, GTA 6 doesn't sacrifice detail for scale or vice versa — "everything is dialed up." The game has reportedly already generated over $570 million in pre-sales, approaching 6 million copies sold. Standard edition is priced at $80, Ultimate Edition at $100.

| 16 | 🏢 Xbox Layoffs Cast Shadow Over Gears E-Day Studio
Developers at The Coalition, the studio behind Gears of War: E-Day, fear they will be laid off immediately after the game launches — and just before bonus payments would be due, according to reporting on the broader Xbox cuts.
The concern comes amid Microsoft's ongoing 3,200-person reduction across its gaming division, announced in July by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. The cuts have already hit Activision, Bethesda, id Software, Blizzard, Mojang, and King, while Double Fine and Compulsion were pushed into independence and Arkane Lyon, Undead Labs, and Ninja Theory entered talks for new ownership.

| 17 | 🏢 Xbox CEO Sharma: "Xbox Is Not for Sale"
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has flatly denied reports that Microsoft is considering selling or spinning off its gaming division. "Xbox is not for sale," Sharma told The New York Times. "We will do whatever it takes to set the company up for success."
The denial follows a report from The Information that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood had discussed spinning out Xbox, though a follow-up report said both executives have since backed Sharma's plans to overhaul the unit. Nadella has praised recent cuts as a "streamlining" of the division, and previously told Sharma the business was not in a healthy state. Xbox's profit margin currently sits at around 3%.
Sharma is pushing a long-term strategy: Halo has been handed to Activision, Diablo 5 is targeting 2029, StarCraft 2030, and multiple Fallout titles are in development across first-party studios.

| 18 | 🛠 Steam Replaces Curated Front Page With Personalized Picks
Valve is overhauling how games get featured during Steam sales, scrapping its manually curated front-page slots in favour of dynamic, personalized recommendations based on individual user preferences and purchase history.
Previously, Valve staff hand-picked a limited number of games for fixed front-page placements — meaning most discounted titles got no visibility. Early tests of the new system showed up to 10 times as many games appearing daily in the Discounts & Events section, with measurable increases in store visits and wishlist additions.
Valve has already paused scheduling for Weekend Deals, Midweek Deals, and Daily Deals sections, and will roll out new developer tools for managing discounts and sale events. "Our goal is to let developers focus on crafting the most compelling games and deals for customers, and not spend time trying to convince someone at Valve to feature their products," the company said. Full rollout is planned for early 2027.

| 20 | 🎮 WoW: Forever Survey Leaks 11 Potential New Classes
An alleged Blizzard survey distributed to select players via Battle.net is asking about 11 potential new classes for World of Warcraft: Forever, the recently announced third version of the MMO built on vanilla WoW.
The leaked list includes the Bard, Illusionist, Necromancer, San'layn, Tinker, Warden, Witch, and a class listed variously as Metalborn, Runemaster, or Runeknight — plus classic-era versions of the Demon Hunter, Monk, and Death Knight. Blizzard has not confirmed any of this publicly, and survey contents are not guarantees of development plans.
Several classes have deep roots in WoW history: the Necromancer was reportedly planned for vanilla before being scrapped, and the Runemaster's rune resource system was an early concept later repurposed for the Death Knight. The San'layn would draw on vampire-themed blood abilities, while the Tinker is described as an engineer capable of tanking, dealing damage, and supporting allies via mechs and gadgets.
