1.Universal replacement of LPG by PNGin the near term is unlikely due to high pipeline and last-mile costs. 2.LNG imports can indirectly support PNGexpansion after regasification. 3.LPG is more suitable than PNG for sparsely populated rural settlements.

1.PNG&CNG chemically similar, but differ in mode of storage & delivery. 2.LNG is produced by compressing LPG to high pressure for marine transport. 3.PNG expansion in India is constrained more by distribution infrastructure than by household demand alone.

➡️Can PNG replace LPG for cooking in India? 1️⃣ Why in News Recent statements by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) indicated that India’s domestic natural gas output could cater to ~30 crore households if shifted to Piped Natural Gas (PNG), reviving debate on PNG as a substitute for LPG. 2️⃣ What is the Issue India has ~33 crore LPG connections, but LPG depends significantly on imports. PNG offers a continuous, pipeline-based cooking fuel, yet expansion is constrained by pipeline networks, last-mile connectivity, and gas supply economics. 3️⃣ Key Concepts / Difference (with facts)LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) • Mix of propane + butane • Stored in cylinders under pressure • Easy last-mile delivery; dominant cooking fuel in India • PNG (Piped Natural Gas) • Mainly methane supplied via pipelines • Metered billing; no cylinder refill hassle • Cleaner burning than many solid fuels • LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) • Natural gas cooled to ~ -162°C to liquefy • Volume reduces by ~600 times for transport by ship • Re-gasified before pipeline supply • CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) • Gas compressed for vehicles 4️⃣ Why LPG has been preferred so far (with data)Massive reach: ~33 crore LPG connections (boosted by Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana) • Portable & universal: Works in rural/remote areas without pipelines • Existing distribution: Large dealer + cylinder delivery network • Fast adoption: Easier than laying pipelines house-to-house 5️⃣ Why Government is pushing PNG • Reduce LPG import dependence (India imports a significant share of LPG demand) • Promote gas-based economy target of 15% share in primary energy mix (policy vision) • Convenience: continuous supply, safer metering, no booking/refill delays • Lower urban logistics burden than cylinder transport 6️⃣ Current Status / Facts • India gas pipeline network: ~25,000 km operational + ~10,500 km under construction (as per article context) • PNG connections crossed 1.5 crore+; target to rise further • CGD licences cover 300+ geographical areas 7️⃣ Challenges in Replacing LPGUrban bias: PNG mainly viable in dense cities/towns • High capex: Pipelines, household connections, meters • Last-mile bottlenecks: Permissions, road cutting, local approvals • Supply constraint: Domestic gas insufficient for universal switch; LNG imports still needed • Rural impracticality: Scattered settlements make pipelines costly 8️⃣ Way Forward • Use PNG in urban clusters, LPG in rural/remote areas • Expand City Gas Distribution (CGD) efficiently • Increase domestic gas production + diversify LNG imports • Rational pricing to make PNG competitive with LPG • Promote hybrid clean cooking strategy 9️⃣ Conclusion PNG can partially substitute LPG, especially in urban India, but cannot fully replace LPG in the near term due to infrastructure and supply constraints. India’s realistic path is a dual-fuel clean cooking ecosystem.

बात इनकी भी सही है की, Total Population के हिसाब से गाडित लगाया है Disater relief fund के लिए लेकिन क्या इतनी सी बात Govt. को क्यों नहीं समझ आयी?
