| 3 | It's wild how just when you think you've heard every crazy story out of WW2, there's always a new documentary or fact that pops up that blows your mind. Remember that it was ONLY a 5 year long war and it significantly changed everything in the world. It's possibly to most important time period in the past 1,000 years, or perhaps ever in human history. And unlike other wars, we have an unreal amount of video footage and documentation from that war, and eye witnesses. World war 1 was probably the most brutal warfare in human history, but WW2 was the most fascinating by far to me because of the technologies that was introduced to the world. Think about it, WW1 went from fighting in trenches with single shot riffles, horse raids etc. to fighter jets with guided missiles,, assault riffles (StG 44), aircraft carriers, destroyer boats the size of apartment buildings, paratrooper assaults, radar, sonar, the first computers, nukes. long range radio, mass manufacturing techniques, nuclear reactors, Precision machining which meant better tools for doctors. The list goes on and on. Just aviation in general couldn't exist today without the technology and knowledge obtained from WW2. | 13 |

So now these wonderful philanthropists that have given out millions of nets have destroyed an ecosystem, crashed a fish population, and created widespread hunger for people that otherwise had plenty of resources. All because they were trying to help with their mosquito nets.
They’ve taken such a rich and important part of Africa, one of the most abundant freshwater fisheries in the world, and destroyed it because they’re ‘helping’ by handing out mosquito nets.

Here's the etymology:
Old Norse: skaus or skúta influenced the name of a stew called lobscouse (the exact linguistic path is debated, with Low German also playing an important role).
Lobscouse was a thick meat-and-vegetable stew commonly eaten by sailors around the North Sea and Baltic.
Liverpool was a major port, and sailors there ate lobscouse so frequently that people from the city became nicknamed "scousers."
Eventually, Scouse came to mean both:
the people of Liverpool, and
the distinctive Liverpool accent.
The story also reflects Liverpool's strong Scandinavian connections. The city and surrounding northwest England were heavily influenced by Norse settlers during the Viking Age, particularly Norwegians who settled via Ireland (especially Dublin and the Isle of Man).
The word lobscouse has close relatives in several North Sea languages:
