I was told to clear the plains,  To be free and meet my friends.  I cleared the plains, but lost my way,  And found no friends at the end of the day.  Lonely, I sat with a test ahead,  No comfort, no words were said. I was told to climb the hill,  And so I practiced, day by day.  Harness cut deep, ropes burned my wrist,  Yet I climbed, alone, through the mist.  But at the top, there was no cheer,  No voice to say, "Well done, my dear." The descent was easier, a call came anew,  I reached out, but the call withdrew.  I was told to clear the sea,  I asked, "Will you promise to set me free?"  For this stage of life, I tried with might,  The sea was vast, endless in sight. Oh, my friend, oh, my boat,  If you leave, how will I float?  My heart broke, in the deep,  Father’s wisdom, mother’s keep,  Was there anyone I truly used?  As I cleared the sea, I felt bruised. Now I’m free, but I can’t walk,  Loneliness is all that I stalk.  Once again, I am alone,  In this journey, on my own.
