🇺🇸🇻🇪⚡️ — ExxonMobil is nearing a preliminary agreement that could pave the way for its return to Venezuela’s oil industry nearly two decades after leaving the country, WSJ reports. The company could sign an MoU with state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela as soon as September to explore investments in several developed and undeveloped oil fields. The potential projects contain more than 50 billion barrels of oil, although negotiations could still be delayed or collapse. Exxon has sent teams to Caracas this year for negotiations following President Trump’s push for U.S. oil companies to help revive Venezuela’s struggling petroleum sector. Talks with Venezuelan officials are expected to continue during the G20 Energy Abundance Ministerial in Houston this week.

🇸🇦🇾🇪⚡️ — Saudi Arabia is running low on missile interceptors as its conflict with Yemen’s Houthis (Ansarallah) continues, prompting Riyadh to seek additional air defense assistance from regional and Western allies, AP reports. Saudi Arabia has asked France, Britain, Pakistan, and Egypt to deploy air-defense support to help protect the kingdom. The requests come as Saudi Arabia’s main military supplier, the U.S., is also facing depleted interceptor stocks after six months of war with Iran.

Abbas’s office was informed of the decision on Wednesday. Dozens of other PA officials who had planned to accompany him had their visa applications rejected as well. The Palestinian Mission to the UN then submitted a resolution to allow Abbas to address the UNGA virtually as he did last year.
