🇯🇵⚡️ — Footage shows the moment an explosion occurred at the Aeon Mall in Kumamoto following the magnitude 7.1 earthquake in southern Japan earlier today. ➡️ Japan's Fire and Disaster Management Agency said the mall's second floor collapsed after the explosion and that many people may be trapped inside. Police believe 20 to 30 people remain unaccounted for. ➡️ It's unclear what caused the explosion as of now.

🇺🇸⚡️ — The Pentagon is moving to rename Joint Base Charleston in honor of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, according to a July 27 memo from Air Force Secretary Troy Meink, The Post and Courier reports. The memo directs the Air Force to begin the process of redesignating the key East Coast installation as Joint Base Lindsey Graham, citing the senator's military service and decades of advocacy for the U.S. Air Force and military infrastructure. Graham played a leading role in supporting the base following its establishment during the Defense Department's 2010 base reorganization.

⚽️ — FIFA President Gianni Infantino is considering selling a 20–30% stake in a new company that would control the FIFA World Cup, in a deal that could value the entity at around £15 billion, according to The Telegraph. JP Morgan is handling the process, and the Trump administration has been consulted. FIFA would retain a majority stake, while private investors and the organization's 211 member associations would hold minority interests. The proposal has drawn opposition from senior football figures, who fear private investment could lead to an expanded World Cup or more frequent tournaments to maximize revenues. One insider described the plan as a "nuclear bomb" for the sport. Infantino could become commissioner of the new company after his FIFA presidency ends in 2031.

🇫🇷 — Pierre-Henry Chuet, a former French navy Rafale pilot and well-known YouTube content creator, was arrested and interrogated by the DGSI, the French internal intelligence agency. He is notably accused of sharing sensitive military information with the Chinese government. Chuet was also well known as a pilot instructor for the Chinese Air Force, training them in combat and tactics.
