What is Evergreening of Loans Evergreening of loans is a practice where a lender extends a new loan to a borrower who is already in default on an existing loan. This can be done in order to avoid having to declare the existing loan as a non-performing asset (NPA). For example, let's say Borrower X had a loan from bank Y and it is about to become NPA, so Y will issue another loan in the name of another family member or to the same borrower X and use that amount to pay the previous loan. This way, the previous loan gets cleared, and it will take upto 3 years for the new loan to become NPA.

❇️RBI’s Green Deposits Framework The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a new framework to offer green deposits to the customers, aiming at developing a Green Finance Ecosystem (GFS) in India. The framework will come into effect from June 1, 2023. A green deposit refers to an interest-bearing deposit received by an RE (Regulated Entity) for a fixed period, with the proceeds earmarked for allocation towards green finance. Applicability: The framework is applicable to Scheduled Commercial Banks, including Small Finance Banks, excluding Regional Rural Banks, Local Area Banks and Payments Banks and all deposit-taking Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), including Housing Finance Companies. ❇️ Green Deposit vs Green Finance vs Greenwashing vs Green Growth ✅ Green Deposit: Green Deposits are a type of financial instrument that allows individuals and institutions to invest their money in environmentally - friendly projects and initiatives. For example, a bank may offer a green deposit product that channels the funds deposited by customers towards financing renewable energy projects like solar or wind farms, rather than traditional fossil fuel projects. ✅ Green Finance: Green Finance refers to the practice of investing money in projects that have environmental benefits. It involves using financial instruments such as loans, bonds, and insurance policies to fund renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other sustainable initiatives. An example of Green Finance is a company issuing a Green Bond to finance a solar energy project, with the bond proceeds dedicated solely to the project. ✅ Greenwashing: Greenwashing refers to the practice of making misleading or false claims about the environmental benefits of a product or service in order to appeal to environmentally-conscious consumers. For example, a company may use "eco-friendly" or "green" marketing language to promote a product that has little to no environmental benefits or even harms the environment. This can be considered deceptive marketing and can mislead consumers into buying a product that does not align with their environmental values. ✅ Green Growth: Green Growth refers to economic growth that is achieved through sustainable and environmentally-friendly means. It involves creating new business opportunities, generating jobs, and improving standards of living while reducing carbon emissions and other negative environmental impacts. An example of Green Growth is the growth of the electric vehicle industry, which has created jobs and economic opportunities while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. 🙎‍♂🙍‍♀Follow 👉 @brajeshmohan and @descriptive_bankexam for Daily updates on Banking and Regulatory Exams
