Dr Ajay Kumar Under provisions of Article 316(1) of the Constitution of India The President of India on Tuesday appointed former Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar (Retd IAS: 1985: KL) as Chairman, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).  Dr Kumar retired from service as Defence Secretary on October 31, 2022. As per the condition of service he may continue to this coveted constitutional position up to October 2027.  Dr Kumar replaces Preety Sudan (Retd IAS: 1983: AP) who completed her tenure as UPSC Chairman on April 29, 2025.
