“South Carolina is henceforth not only our Mother but our only Sovereign, who has sole right to our allegiance. The whole, undivided loyalty of our heart and conscience (we speak not only as a Carolinian, but as a Catholic theologian) must be hers and hers alone. May the God of Peace guide her counsels and bless her with ever growing prosperity! May the Lord of Hosts shield her, if need be, and bless with victory her arms, if they must use them to maintain her honor and her independence as a sovereign commonwealth.” – Bishop Patrick Neeson Lynch, Dec 22nd 1860.

He’d go on to be a founding member of a Confederacy and a Key advocate for Secession in GA. He’d be tasked with writing the Confederate Constitution in Montgomery. He’d go on to be killed in Battle at Fredricksburg in 1862 dying for the independence of his homeland.
