SC to hear please accusing New Data Protection Law #Prelims #GS2 --> Section 44(3) has amended section 8(1)(j) of the RTI Act to facilitate public authorities to blankly refuse information on the ground that the details sought are of personal nature. --> The Puttaswamy judgment recognised the right to privacy under Article 21, forming the constitutional basis for stronger data protection in the digital age. --> DPDP Act, 2023: Objective: The Act seeks to protect personal digital data and prevent misuse by private entities, expanding individual data rights in response to growing digitisation. --> Change in RTI Disclosure Norms - The DPDP Act widens the scope of exemptions under Section 8(1)(d) and (j) of the RTI Act, significantly altering disclosure standards. - Expanded Discretion of PIOs - Earlier, PIOs had to justify denial with proof of privacy invasion or lack of public interest. Post-DPDP, they can deny information by merely stating privacy or public-interest concerns, without evidence.
