Even though step wise marking was introduced by ICAI, still the checking methodology is fraught with inefficiencies. There may be multiple methodologies to solve a sum and therefore steps will vary basis the methodology adopted.. However, it has been witnessed rather glaringly that ICAI checking does not honour steps if it does not concur with its defined steps and solution even though the alternate may be equally logical and absolutely correct.. This is deeply frustrating, leads to ambiguity and it clearly shows lacks of agility that an educational institute of the calibre of ICAI needs to showcase..
However, getting frustrated is not the solution.. Negotiating this rigidity and building capability around the same is the solution..
