Answer Synopsis :- ✅ The origin of national consciousness is to be traced to Raja Rammohan Roy and his passionate love of liberty. He was essentially a practical constitutional reformer ✅ He made a spirited protest against the Press Ordinance of 1823 which curtailed the liberty of the press. ✅ In 1827, He strongly objected to the Jury Act by which Christians could not be tried by a Hindu or Muhammadans juror. ✅ The progressive mind of Rammohan demanded from the British Parliament various other measures of reform ---- like separation of executive and judicial functions, independence of judges, substitution of English for Persian as the official language of the courts of law. ✅ He suggested that Europeans accumulating capital in India should be encouraged to settle in India so that wealth might not go out of the country. ✅ He firmly believed that these Europeans would bring about the industrial regeneration of India, effect improvement in mechanical arts and would secure better administration of the country by representating the grievances of India to the authorities in England. ✅ In a public meeting in 1829, he made no secret of his feelings : "The greater our intercourse with European gentleman, the greater will be our improvement in literary, social and political affair". ✅ The most refreshing feature of Rammohan's interest in political reforms is it's universalism. a) he grieved over the overthrow of constitutional government in Naples in 1821. b) he rejoiced over the success of the July Revolution (1830) in France. c) he hoped that the victory of liberty in Europe would benefit "Asiatic nations". He recorded his philosophical faith in that victory : "Enemies to liberty and friends of despotism have never been and will never be successful". ( You can end the answer with his quote" !!)
