#Environment ✅Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi ⚜️Fungi that live in symbiotic association with plant roots. They help plants absorb nutrients, especially phosphorus, and in return receive carbon compounds from plants. ⚜️Show how soil is not merely a physical layer of minerals... it is a biological infrastructure that sustains vegetation, water cycles and carbon cycles.Soil fertility is not only a chemical property; it is an ecological outcome produced by microbes, fungi, roots and organic matter. 📌Mains use : Use this as example to show why India’s conservation policy must not restrict itself to forests and some charismatic species; it must include soils, grasslands, microbes and below-ground biodiversity. ⚡️VK IAS subject wise channels - Click here 🎖Please Subscribe : Youtube.com/vikaskanukollu

#Environment #Species_in_news ✅Gs-3 : Environment/Science and technology 🅾️Frogs Build Clouds: What Foam-Nesting Frogs Teach Us About Survival 📌This is a case of Animal Behaviour- dont try to remember the name of the frog- focus on why they do this?- the survival logic- The African grey foam-nest tree frog does something unusual. Instead of laying eggs directly in water like most frogs, it builds a foamy nest on tree branches hanging over pools. The nest looks like a cloudy mass of bubbles. Inside it, the eggs develop safely. When the tadpoles are ready, they break through the foam and fall into the water below. ⚡️VK IAS subject wise channels - Click here 🎖Please Subscribe : Youtube.com/vikaskanukollu

✅Gs-3 : Environment- Pollution - Chennai case study- a classic case where Measurement metrics can mislead policy and a learning that Low visibility problems can still be high impact 🅾️Microplastic pollution - What you see = Low quantity of microplastics in Chennai beaches ⚜️What matters = High ecological risk despite low quantity-Chennai has nylon fibres-Absorbs toxins, chemically active-more dangerous-Most particles < 1000 microns- eaten by plankton- leading to food chain contamination- also Block digestive tracts due to shape of the fibre-Not just chemical harm, also mechanical damage-Microplastics → carry toxins + microbes → enter body → affect immune + hormonal systems ⚠️Why Chennai specifically- Because Coastal cities = continuous microplastic input zones 🅾️Microplastics in Human blood- 5 kinds of polymers that are important - Click here 📌Prelims : Initiatives to Tackle Microplastics- click here ⚡️VK IAS subject wise channels - Click here 🎖Please Subscribe : Youtube.com/vikaskanukollu

🅾️Loss of amphibians = systemic ecological stress-Frogs live in both aquatic and terrestrial systems-Highly sensitive to environmental change 🅾️Climate change causes false early monsoon signals and Prolonged dry spells-Leads to failed breeding cycles 🅾️Invasive pathogens create Disease-driven extinction-Fungal disease: chytridiomycosis-Attacks skin → disrupts respiration & ion balance-This is one of the largest disease-driven biodiversity collapses globally 🅾️Land-use change-Wetlands, streams, forests degraded=Habitat fragmentation-Frogs lose breeding grounds 🅾️Wildlife protection framework Only a small fraction protected under WPA 1972- Legal frameworks are species-selective-not ecosystem-centric 🎖Join - @ecologyhighlights for high value environment articles 🎖Please Subscribe : Youtube.com/vikaskanukollu

✅Gs-3 : Climate change- Deforestation solution 📌Context : Brazil proposed a new financing mechanism called the Tropical Forest Forever Facility. The idea is simple on paper. Countries that keep their forests standing will receive payments from a global fund 🅾️Issue : Saving forests is not primarily a financial problem but a political problem about control, rights, and accountability. It is about changing who holds power over land=If climate finance strengthens the following, then forests may survive. ⚜️Community rights ⚜️Local governance ⚜️Indigenous leadership 🚫If it strengthens these, then the system simply repeats the old colonial pattern of outsiders managing forests while locals bear the consequences ⚜️Governments ⚜️Financial markets ⚜️International intermediaries 🎖Join @hinduhighlights for News analysis @upschighlights for prelims info @ecologyhighlights for high value environment articles 🎖Please Subscribe : Youtube.com/vikaskanukollu

#Geography ✅Aravalli - Ecological signifiance 🅾️The Aravalli system functions as a degraded but critical geomorphic and ecological transition zone, whose disruption has amplified desertification, groundwater stress, and habitat fragmentation 🔰Important points for Prelims exam: ⚜️Oldest Range: The Aravallis are India's oldest mountain range (~2 billion years old). ⚜️Desert Shield: They act as a critical "ecological barrier" preventing the eastward spread of the Thar Desert into the Indo-Gangetic plains (Haryana, UP). ⚜️Water Tower: They are the source of major rivers like Chambal, Sabarmati, and Luni and serve as a massive groundwater recharge zone. ⚜️Resource Hub: Rich in minerals like sandstone, marble, granite, lead, zinc, and copper. 🎖Join @hinduhighlights for News analysis @upschighlights for prelims info @ecologyhighlights for high value environment articles 🎖Please Subscribe : Youtube.com/vikaskanukollu

#Environment ✅Gs-3 : Conservation : IUCN red-flagged the Western Ghats 🅾️The IUCN’s World Heritage Outlook 4 (2024)-3 Indian sites = Western Ghats, Manas National Park, and Sundarbans National Park = classified as “of significant concern-doesn’t mean immediate collapse, but rather deteriorating conditions with insufficient mitigation. ⚠️Why They’re Especially Vulnerable ⚜️1. Western Ghats- Mosaic of tropical forests and grasslands → high endemicity.Deforestation, quarrying, and plantation monocultures have reduced habitat connectivity and soil stability. ⚜️2. Sundarbans: Facing salinity increase, pollution, and storm surge damage to mangrove cover. ⚜️3. Manas: Recovering from insurgency but still affected by encroachment and forest degradation. ➡️Follow @ecologyhighlights for Environment related news snippets 🎖Please Subscribe : Youtube.com/vikaskanukollu

#Environment ✅Gs-3 : Pollution- Reasons for winter pollution in NCR region- Role of biomass combustion 📍There are multiple dimensions to the problem of pollution that a UPSC aspirant needs to know- click here 🅾️The government's primary action was to enforce a ban and impose penalties, tracked by technology. It relied on satellite monitoring (MODIS/VIIRS) to count the number of fire incidents. This shows the state's move towards data-driven governance. As the farmer became aware of the satellite's schedule (passing only a few times a day), they adapted. The Action shifted from outright burning to strategic burning—late in the evening, low-intensity, or partial burns—to evade detection. 🅾️Government data proudly announced a sharp decline in fire counts (the metric of visible success). However, the actual total burnt area- truth of the environmental damage remained largely unchanged. ➡️Follow @ecologyhighlights for Environment related news snippets 🎖Please Subscribe : Youtube.com/vikaskanukollu

#Environment ✅Mycelium bricks - The construction industry is responsible for ~40% of global CO₂ emissions, primarily from materials like cement, bricks, and steel.Fired clay bricks alone contribute ~300 million tonnes of CO₂ annually, making them a significant polluter. 🅾️They offer a low-carbon, sustainable alternative to traditional building materials, aligning with global green building initiatives- To appreciate this you should know the concept of Embodied Carbon ⚠️Also read- Zero Carbon plan for buildings by Nagpur= first city in India to do so @upschighlights - Relevant hashtags for Prelims- Click here 🎖I will cover such topics in a structured format for Prelims- Please Subscribe : Youtube.com/vikaskanukollu

✅Gs-2/3 : IR- Climate change- Need for diplomacy 🅾️Central premise of this article- The biggest risk to climate action is not lack of technology—it’s lack of coordination and governance. Future climate forecasting will not depend solely on any single nation but rather on AI-powered, decentralized modeling networks- Ex : EU’s Copernicus Climate Initiative, China’s AI-Driven Climate Models (2023) 🅾️The best climate model is a decentralized, self-correcting system that combines multi-scale forecasting with automated validation mechanisms. ⚠️🌟V. IMP= Expect questions on AI in climate change, international climate collaborations, and policy recommendations for resilient climate modeling systems. The 2025 UPSC Mains Exam will likely test this intersection of climate science, global governance, and emerging technology. 🎖VK IAS subject wise channels - Click here ⚠️Youtube : Click here and join the VK IAS channel
