Sir, We are glad to inform you that Kerala State Energy Conservation (Building Code) Rules 2017 got Notified vide (G.O. (P) No. 3/2017/PD dated 8th May 2017 vide Kerala Gazette Vol VI , No 936. Considering the importance of this notification, the Government of Kerala is actively considering Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) compliance for all prospective buildings. This calls for the capacity building of the LSGD Engineers & other stakeholders like administrators, other government officials, municipal officials, architects, engineers, developers, builders, etc. as they are having an important role in the successful implementation of ECBC in the State. The Eco Niwas Samhita-ENS,(ECBC for Residential building Sector) was developed and launched by the Ministry of Power, Government of India in July 2021. It aims for promoting design and construction of homes including apartments and townships to give the benefits of energy efficiency to the occupants. It sets minimum building envelope performance standards to limit heat gains (for cooling dominated climates) and to limit heat loss (for heating dominated climates) as well as for ensuring adequate natural ventilation and daylighting. As part of the successful implementation of ECBC & ENS in Kerala, an Energy Efficient Building (EEB) cell has been set up at EMC Office. The EEB cell provides technical support to EMC as well as other Departments regarding EEB. EMC along with the EEB Cell Kerala is keen on ECBC implementation in the Kerala State.
