*Suprabhatam* *Sri Mandavya Narayana Swamy Temple- Samarlakota* Sri Mandavya Narayanaswamy Temple is located in Samarlakota , Kakinada District , Andhra Pradesh . This temple is known as Dakshina Badari, near Kumarabhimaram , Pancharama Kshetra located here. Sri Mandavya Narayanaswamy temple at Samarlakota on the banks of Tulyabhaganadi, one of the seven branches of the Pawan Godavari river, is highly regarded as 'Dakshina Badari'. This temple is famous as Kongu Bangaram by Korika leader and Kalpavalli by devotees. The name Mandavya Narayana Swamy is popularly known to the Swami as he was enshrined by Sage Mandavya who did penance in this region known as Dandakaranya region during the Treta Yuga. Legend has it that Sage Mandavya placed a 'Parusavedi' at the foot of the idol during the installation of the idol (anything that touches the Parusavedi turns into gold). Locals narrate that a merchant who noticed the Parusavedi dug up the idol with his 15 followers and was about to burn the Parusavedi when a great serpent appeared at the place and engulfed them with poisonous flames. Consecrated by sage Mandavya, this temple was built by Vijayaditya, the grandson of the Chola king Pulakeshi II. The history of this temple is that it was built in 655. Subsequently Sri Vijayaditya installed the idol of Sri Mahalakshmi Ammavari in the Bhogamandapa at a distance of ten feet from the idol of Sri Swami. The idol of Goddess Shri Mahalakshmi, seen in Maharaja's dream, was found by fishermen in the sea. There are historical evidences that when the fishermen presented the statue to the king, he enshrined Sri Mahalakshmi Goddess here. Following the Vaishnava tradition, if the goddess is not associated with the Lord, but is consecrated separately, then the goddess is called Veeralakshmi. For that reason, the goddess here can be called as Veeralakshmi. Many inscriptions in Prakrit language are found on the pillars of the temple. This temple stands as a symbol of the artistry, mechanical talent, architecture and technology of the sculptors of that time. During the period between Uttarayana and Dakshinayana, the sunrays falling directly on the feet of Sri Narayanaswamy can be said to be the temple construction skill of that time. *Manoj Inamdar*
