Which of the following statements is/are incorrect?
This piece is for dear friends who could not make it to the interview list
You are not defeated even if everything is lost
It is that feeling which cannot be shared. It feels like a personal loss. The dream that has been meticulously and delicately nurtured got shattered by this one moment. The missing name from the holy pdf is the one that cannot be described in words. There are many sympathizers but a few empathizers to share your grief.
I have faced it myself, not once but multiple times, every time it has hit, I found myself broken into a thousand pieces. Even while I write this, the eyes are moist and the vision is blurry. The UPSC process takes the hard work of another level, with no assurance of any kind of return whatsoever. The youth, the energy, the money and the will power is required to give you the slightest of chance of clearing this exam. And then the sheer luck comes into play where perception of the checker plays an important role.
So, in short, there are a lot of variables that are beyond your control. What you can do is to control the controllable, and leave the rest for the destiny to define.
I know, at this moment, no words can console you. You might be feeling for the clock to stop ticking at this very time. Conveying this message to the parents is the hardest.
Unfortunately, it is what it is. The reality is harsh but this is the only truth. The fact will remain undeniable, no matter how many relooks you give to the PDF. So, keep aside your emotion and accept the result with a smile on your face.
Do not feel defeated and dejected, because, you have actually learnt a lot in this process. Do not feel under confident because fighting a war and accepting the outcome with grace is a sign of a braveheart. Do not feel hopeless because hope is not the copyright of an institution, rather it is the product of your state of mind.
Be brave and move on.
In this lean phase, try to be in a company of people who don’t judge you by the outcome of any result. Find a place where you are respected for just being you and nothing else. I feel parents and true friends are the best option to spend your time with. Their love and affection is free from any of your external achievements.
Let your mind gain strength and then recollect the shattered pieces of your thoughts and dreams. Analyse your effort in the most ideal way. Take help of your mentor in this process. And, if you feel that the scope for improvement is still there, go on and plan for your next attempt. If you want to attempt for other options in the government sector (RBI, SEBI, NABARD, State PCS), plan for it.
And, if you feel like you are done with the effort and the fire for UPSC is getting extinguished, go and enter the private sector with killing force and rock the floor. Believe me, you will never regret this decision.
At last, winning or losing is the part of a game. What’s important is your intent and willingness to succeed. This demands perseverance, passion and power which eventually develops the never say die attitude in an individual.
In the words of that famous warrior:
“क्या हुआ जो मैदान हार गए. अभी सब कुछ नहीं हारे. "वो अदम्य साहस और इच्छाशक्ति जो सर झुकाने और सजदा करने को तैयार नहीं"
