🚨 VA Trend Alert for IPMAT Indore Aspirants
Conversation Analysis has now appeared in IPMAT Indore 2025 and 2026. While it's too early to call it a permanent trend, it's certainly a format you shouldn't overlook.
The good news? You don't need to study a new topic. Conversation Analysis tests the same core comprehension skills—main idea, inference, vocabulary in context, and logical reasoning—but through interviews, podcasts, and dialogues instead of traditional passages.
The takeaway is simple: Expand your reading practice beyond conventional RCs.

Profit & Loss – Explanation Key
Q1. Fruit Seller (Answer: C – 20%)
A fruit seller buys oranges at 8 for ₹40 and sells them at 5 for ₹30.
Solution:
Cost Price (CP) per orange = 40 ÷ 8 = ₹5
Selling Price (SP) per orange = 30 ÷ 5 = ₹6
Profit per orange = ₹6 − ₹5 = ₹1
Profit % = (1/5) × 100 = 20%
Q2. Sugar Trader (Answer: B – 16⅔%)
A trader buys sugar at ₹54 per kg and sells it at ₹63 per kg.
Solution:
Profit = ₹63 − ₹54 = ₹9
Profit % = (9/54) × 100 = 16⅔%
Q3. Discount & Profit (Answer: B – 9.71%)
A shopkeeper marks an article at ₹2400 and gives a discount of 20%.
Cost Price = ₹1750.
Solution:
Selling Price = 2400 × 80% = ₹1920
Profit = ₹1920 − ₹1750 = ₹170
Profit % = (170/1750) × 100 = 9.71%
Q4. Rice Trader (Answer: C – 35%)
A trader buys 150 kg of rice for ₹9000. One-third is sold at a loss of 10%.
At what profit percentage should the remaining rice be sold so that the overall profit is 20%?
Method 1:
CP per kg = 9000 ÷ 150 = ₹60
First 50 kg sold at 10% loss:
SP per kg = ₹54
Revenue = 50 × 54 = ₹2700
Required total SP = 9000 × 1.20 = ₹10800
Revenue needed from remaining 100 kg = 10800 − 2700 = ₹8100
Required SP per kg = 8100 ÷ 100 = ₹81
Profit % = (81 − 60)/60 × 100 = 35%
Shortcut:
(1/3)(−10) + (2/3)x = 20
−10 + 2x = 60
x = 35%
Q5. Commission (Answer: C – ₹4250)
A commission agent gets 15% commission on the marked price.
If an article is sold for ₹5100 and the dealer gains 20%, find the cost price.
Solution:
Selling Price = ₹5100
Since SP = 120% of CP,
CP = 5100 ÷ 1.20 = ₹4250
Note:
The commission information is not required because the selling price is already given. It would matter only if the question asked for the marked price or the dealer's net profit after paying commission. | 145 |
