James Watkins (the man behind 'Eden Lake' and 'Speak No Evil') directs an R-rated Batman spin-off, and /Film has the first screening reactions in. That's a filmmaker who knows how to make cruelty uncomfortable, which suits a villain whose body is the horror.
The script comes from Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, so expect a tragic monster story, not a capes-and-quips one. Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen has to sell both the charm and the melting.
Social reactions are always generous, so the real test is the full reviews. The cast also includes Naomi Ackie and David Dencik.

His reps confirmed the death of RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. across 56 episodes of 'Breaking Bad'. TMZ reports that a county official in Texas confirmed it, and the investigation is ongoing. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988.
Mitte has cerebral palsy, and he played Flynn without hiding it. That gave a disabled actor a lasting place on one of TV's great dramas. He also worked as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's.
Flynn was the family's moral compass, and the show needed him to be that.

Disney's new original follows Billie, a teenager who finds out she's a witch, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. Walton Goggins voices a three-eyed cat with a bad attitude.
The "ordinary girl turns out to be magical" premise is as old as the broom. The cat is the only thing here with a pulse of its own, and Goggins' dry menace is the right fuel for it. Original Disney animation needs exactly that kind of oddball energy to stand apart from the sequels. | 12 226 |

Flipping the power balance is the smart move. 'Blade Runner' always asked what makes a person, and a society run by the made rather than the makers gives that question room a two-hour film never had. That makes it a procedural first and a possession story second. It's a smart way in after sequels that kept trying to out-scare Friedkin.
Flanagan has the tools, from the chamber-piece tension of 'Hush' to a gift for grief and faith. If the film honors the ritual and doesn't treat it as a gimmick, this could be the best thing the series has done in decades. | 18 151 |

Samuel L. Jackson says he's not in 'Avengers: Doomsday'. His next Marvel movie is the one after it, which means Fury sits out the X-Men reunion and the Evans and Hemsworth comeback party.
That's a smart call. Fury has been a cameo with an eyepatch since the 2008 post-credits scene, and 'Secret Invasion' did him no favors. Saving him for a Battleworld pile-up gives him a reason to show up again.

/Film argues that Mike Flanagan has quietly soft-launched a second King universe. His 'Carrie' moves the story to the social media era and writes the bullies as people, not cartoons. Then it frames Carrie White as one link in a long line of psychic women.
That's the smart part. A shared universe built on a lineage of powers beats stitching Easter eggs together, which is how 'The Dark Tower' (2017) sank. Flanagan already proved with 'Doctor Sleep' (2019) that he can honor King and still go his own way.
Eight episodes on Prime Video, with Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan. Flanagan's dream is three seasons, and no second season is confirmed yet.

Michael Bay is in talks to direct the next Transformers for Paramount, with Steven Spielberg overseeing the franchise's creative direction again. Bay hasn't touched it since 'The Last Knight' (2017), and the Skydance-era Paramount is clearly betting on nostalgia as a reset button. 🤖

All four seasons of Mayor of Kingstown hit Netflix on October 5, right before the final season. Taylor Sheridan co-created it, and it's the one nobody talks about next to 'Yellowstone'. 🎬
Honestly, that's a shame. Jeremy Renner as a fixer holding a prison town together is bleak, pulpy and a little overcooked, and I mean that as a compliment. It won't win awards, but 40 episodes of grim, well-oiled pulp is a very good fall binge. 🔥

| 11 | 🎬 Endgame takes the crown back, by a hair
'Avengers: Endgame' is the highest-grossing movie ever again, edging out 'Avatar' by roughly $2 million (about $2.9255B to $2.9237B, per Deadline). A re-release pulled it off, and the timing is no accident.
I like the cheek of it. The Anthony and Joe Russo movie gets a victory lap right before 'Avengers: Doomsday' lands in December, which is smart marketing. It also feels a bit like a stat built for a headline. 🤔
James Cameron won't sit still, and his sequels and re-releases make this a seesaw. Enjoy the throne while it lasts.

Prime Video pulled the plug on 'Spider-Noir' with 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and 11 Emmy nominations, the most of any of its shows this year. Nicolas Cage finally got his first regular TV role, and it shows he can carry a series.
My read is that it launched big but dropped out of the top 10 fast, and the price tag didn't help. Black-and-white and color versions of every episode is a gorgeous flex, just not a cheap one. This season, Gary Oldman (Sirius Black in 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban') shares scenes with Lenny Rush, the 17-year-old cast as Dobby in the HBO 'Harry Potter'. Lamb ends up shielding a kid whose father was murdered. Cute coincidence, sure. 🧙
What I like is that nobody sells it as a stunt. Rush plays a frightened boy opposite the foulest spy in London, and that's a better pitch than any wand-waving. 'Slow Horses' keeps landing sharp casting without begging for attention. 🕵️

Alejandro G. Iñárritu returns to English-language filmmaking for the first time since 'The Revenant', with a "comedy of catastrophic proportions." SlashFilm's early review says his indulgences nearly sink it. That tracks. The 'Birdman' ego-trip energy is right there in the pitch. 🎬

Prime Video renewed the show while cameras are still rolling in Toronto on the "Make Me" season. That's not a streamer hedging its bets. I like it. 💪
Alan Ritchson turned a guy who punches people into a reliable global draw, and Season 4 reportedly pulled 66 million viewers in 28 days. That puts Reacher next to 'Bosch' as Prime's longest-running scripted staple. My only worry is formula fatigue, but the one-book-per-season setup keeps it honest.

| 18 | 🎬 Assayas and Stewart are back. "Spiritual World" looks like the film they were always going to make again.
Olivier Assayas described the project as being "in the vein" of Personal Shopper, which tells you everything. Kristen Stewart alongside Vicky Krieps, Riley Keough, Wagner Moura, and Barbara Sukowa. That's a serious ensemble.
The Fassbinder regular Sukowa in an Assayas ghost story signals something more European, more patient. Krieps fresh off Corsage adds another layer. This won't be mainstream comfort food, and that's exactly the point.

| 20 | 🎬 The Dave Bautista horror movie Netflix can't stop watching
M. Night Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin is dominating Netflix charts three years after its release. A family on vacation, four armed strangers, one apocalyptic ultimatum. Shyamalan keeps it lean and suffocating for all 100 minutes.
Bautista plays Leonard, the soft-spoken ringleader. It's the best dramatic performance of his career, full stop. He makes you feel sorry for the man holding a weapon to your head.
